Hague stood with his hands upon his hips and his feet shoulder width apart as Repsol halted his mount, he had mused to himself to run his mount at his friend to see if the man was set in stone alas the idea fell by the wayside as he knew Samuel would not move and probably be killed. He lifted his right leg over the mounts rear and slid from his horse, he turned passing the reins to Samual then apologising thinking he was a lad, the lad waiting took the reins of his mount and moved off, the two men moved to the lean too and Repsol began to change into his battle garb, Samuel offering some information as to the terrain where he would patrol, they had strict instructions to keep well clear of the Abbey to the south, Samuel stressed the instructions once more. Repsol looked to his friend as if he had been struck deaf, he nodded distinctly so as Samuel got his reply, a troop sergeant appeared at the mouth of their retreat and offered his message that the patrol is mounted ready, Repsol looked at the young sergeant, then to Samuel as he thought about the true age of his sergeant for the day, Samuel as he did smiled and knew his friend was in good hands as he remembers the riding competion they had once before, he explained to Repsol this was the trooper that then was who won the compatiotnio, Repsol shrugged his shoulders and turned lifting his sword and placing the thick strap around his waist and tightening it off. He asked the sergeant for his mens patience for their be a few more things to discuss afore he joined them, the sergeant saluted and left, he turned to Samuel and took hold of his arm above the elbow and slowly pulled him closer so as he may whisper for iffen word would get out amongst the men then he would surely fail in his personal quest. He told Samuel of the Lady within Windstorm he wished the attentions off and mayhap how would he begin, he asked Samuel as he had been married for some time and had a somewhat large family so Repsol thought he must have done something right to last so long, his friend grinned his mischievous grin and spoke his friend explaining the patrol in hand shall seek priority over his advice though they shall discuss it at length upon his return, Samuel would take thought of the matter whilest his friend be away.

He mounted and rode to the head of the columns, he turned to the sergeant and nodded, the sergeant raised his arm, looked back to the columns and lowered his hand, the men kicked their mounts into a walk. His mind at this time was taken by other things, he would really need to return to Windstorm to seek closure of this matter once and for all, his mind constantly filled with thoughts of the Lady, it was distracting him, his thoughts where brought back by the distant voice of the sergeant as the troopers turned east and his mount headed north, he snapped back and immediately turned his mount to join the others, as he rode to his position at the head of the columns some of the men looked upon him and smiled for they knew him too well, it would cause a small ripple of laughter through the ranks, he slowed his mount next to his sergeants and smiled at him explaining the turn was intended to seek whether the sergeant knew his route, a smile crossed the sergeants lips and pointed to the markers the scouts had left for them, Repsol shrugged his shoulders and with a comment of "Smart Arse" he continued with the sergeant. After a time one of the scouts rode from the north, the sergeant and Repsol broke ranks and stood with the scout, Repsol needed his sergeant as he could not really understand fully what the rough looking man afore them was saying, he knew when he pointed directions but his tongue was somewhat difficult for the Lord. The sergeant explained to Repsol the road shall be north as further east it was impassable for mounted troops, the forests and hills would prove to be too much for them, Repsol nodded and the patrol turned north, still at a walk the mounts where easy on the pace, the weight they carried was more than is normal as all where in battle garb, Repsol by this time wishing he had either worn armor or brought a better saddle with him, upon his return home he shall change it for it be comfortable when you have metal between his backside and it, though for pants and such it was not effective. After a few more miles the command was given to rest and take food and water, the columns halted and the men dismounted, the Lances where stood upright in threes each leaning on the other for its support, the men broke out their dried meat and bread, with a small flask filled with honey mead and one with water, the scouts had worked well, they operated independantly from the troopers, each one he had inherited from whom or even when he could not recall at this moment, they where efficient to the point of almost being invisible, he left them to their own devices and it proved to be fruitful, he gave up some time ago attempting to bring them to join the troops, he knew each one was somehow related but this he did not give thought to as his mind wandered back to other things. He sat eating alone watching the men mill around and speak in groups men moving from one group to the next sharing a joke or two and then moving onto another group, this proved to him they all felt comfortable with eachother and integrated well together this was a good quality as all knew that things could change at the drop of a hat and they may well be fighting for their survival, but one thing be for sure they would do it together, he drank as a trooper brought a fresh water bottle and stood it at his feet, he looked up to the man who inclined his head and smiled turned and moved back to the group he was with.....

The patrol mounted and turned to head north east as the orders where given their scouts rode to the head of the column in haste, one scout was a common sight to report to the column but two, rarely did they come to the column in two's one would normally secure the area he was in until the other caught up to him, Repsol knew for two to return something was amiss. The first rider pulled his mount aside Repsol's and began his report, Orcs in great numbers where ahead of the column too many for the troopers to confront and as per their orders they where not to attack any at this time, Repsol made the decision to move back to the encampment and report to Caera of the findings, as the patrol turned west, two more scouts rode to them at speed, Repsol's mind already planning their escape if they had been cut off from the west. The scout halted his mount and looked to Repsol, he explained the camp had been moved closer to Caernarfon's castle for safety as the Orcs where active within the borders, Repsol nodded and gave instructions to the sergeant that they would ride hard to the camp, the four scouts as if a silent command had been given spun their mounts on their heels and moved off towards the camp, with four scouts their journey would be swift, the patrol kicked on their mounts to a canter and followed the route back to the camp. As they rode he was making plans to return to his home for there was matters outsanding which needed to be taken in hand, he thought of the Lady Althea and how he might win her affections, this may be his last chance to speak with her for some time, he would sail under darkness and arrive in Windstorm in the early hours and be back with his men the morn after this he thought would be his plan for at least two days forth. After some time they arrived at the new camp, the guards where doubled and patrols ceased for the time being until he spoke with the Queen and her advisors, the men spoke of flying serpents which would fly up and land behind the trees a short way off, he smiled and explained all to them that these where their allies and they should not be afraid of them, it went someway to eleviate some of their fears though not all, the camp settled as much as they could as Repsol made his way to the Castle for a council with the Queen Caera....

His pace quickened as he left the castle, something that Lord Tycho Magnusson had said rang in his ears, the allied forces now overwhelmed those of the impending attackers..... so why? Since the taking of Tomas there was an urgency in the patrols Caera had people working day and night to gain knowledge of his whereabouts, his immediate thoughts where to place four scouts to each patrol, he would double the patrols to eighty men he had no doubt there would be soon orc patrols coming within his reach and they would be despatched. The moonlight lit his back as he walked and close by he could make out a shape of a man, his hand went to his sword hilt as he approached and within five or six paces he saw it to be Samuel he was awaiting the Knights return they greeted eachother and began to walk together to the camp the pace was somewhat slower as the conversation turned to one of battle and of the unease of the men...
Repsol: The unease M'friend of what do thy speak of for they have seen shadows in the trees they be orcs, I doth agree some men hath nae seen the likes afore but they die like any other and shall do so at the point of our Lances and the points of our swords
He turned to face his friend and waited for him to speak placing his right hand on Samuels left shoulder, Samuel turned and began to walk once more at a slow pace..
Samuel: It nae be the shadows.....it be the flyers, some with men upon their backs and some by themselves, huge beasts taking to the air tis such which men speak of..
Repsol allowed a slight laugh escape his lips, he knew the men spoke of Dragons and Dragon riders, the men had seen but a few in the air above some of their patrols though their camp was away from the Windstorm the Queen in her wisdom had seen fit to do such so as not alarm the forces, he turned and reassured his friend...
Repsol: Samuel, I hath nae ever rode to battle without knowing firstly who me allies be and what they be able of, of which ye speak the men hath nae to fear for they be allies now and forever and we shall stand and fight at their side, they shall fill what desires they have from their enemies dead and nae from any allie, instruct the men as such and any who fear shall speak with me and I shall explain such aye mayhap I should speak with them of such, the morrow it shall be done afore any patrol leaves the camp....
This is what his friend wished to hear for there be only one who shall call the troops to battle and it was the man at his side, he nodded in agreement and smiled somewhat in his own way he had got the Knight back into the arena of battle rather than letting his brain turn to mush thinking of home and a certain Lady, though all looked back to their home once in a while, they walked the last steps in silence looking to the guards and behind them archers hidden in the treeline, they entered the camp and moved to the cooks fire...

((Not certain yet if we have casualties or such. But aparently there was a big attack on Caerfarnon that wiped out the village and Conwy. We need to find out what happened to our troops!))

*The bells were ringing from the harbour. The watch on the walls took over the sign and within moments the Master Sergeant was on horseback to docks to see what was happening. Signal flags were raised from the ship's side, indicating the need to have authority present, even before they were docked. To his surprise Windstorms men were on board of the Caerfarnon Ships. The troops that had been send there. And two mages. Commands were given, a few words exchanged and four men selected to ride to the castle immediately. In the great Hall, Edfeil waited anxiously, Sergeant Lan at her side. And what she heard fell upon her like a sword piercing her side. Caerfarnon. Besieged. The village fallen. People killed. The castle itsself surrounded by hordes nae inclined to give mercy to any, be they villager or Queen. They needed to do something, but what? Windstorms troops had been returned. Queen Caera had seen more battle in her life than Edfeil ever hoped to witness. Caerfarnon's commanders were nae foolish. Iffen they send home troops, it would mean... they nae thought there was a use anymore for the men. Which would mean... With wide eyes the queen looked around. Repsol. He nae was there. None of the commanders of her forces were. And time.. time was of the essence. She needed to make a decision. She needed to make it now. In a deceptively calm voice she ordered maps to be brought down. A gift they had been, from Captain Tyrun, long ago. They encompassed the coasts of many of the realms she used to travel to, when she still represented her father. She had Captain Stephan called, who manned her personal ship, the Pretty Boat. Master Sergeant Gerben, the Captain, Sergeant Lan and she bend over the maps, together with the four men who had just come from the ships. The castle surrounded. The village plundered. So many dead. The wounded in the castle, but the hordes in front of it were well armed. Edfeil looked around. Once more a hush fell over the castle and all now seemed to look at her. It was her task to make a decision that would determine life and death mayhap of the men still in the ships. And of the innocent of Caerfarnon. Lord have mercy, it was nae a decision she wished to make. But time was of the essence. The picture painted before her was grim, and iffen they wanted to do something, nae time could be wasted. They could not risk losing the tide. The Master Sergeant was talking. The mages were talking. Sergeant Lan was cursing and Captain Stephan pointed out something.
*She rose slowly from the table, looked at the map once more and made the sign of the cross, before climbing the few steps towards her throne. The first of the twin thrones had been removed near a year ago. A symbol that she reigned alone. The few steps were enough to have a hush fall over the great hall. So rarely did she ascend the dais save for times of ceremony.*
"Send all ships.. with just enough men to safely man them. Have them armed. Nae interfear with the fighting unless asked by the king or queen. But stay near the coast. If any need shelter.... If any need a safe haven.. Windstorm will provide it. Prepare our own walls and bring all troops within the border. Call all men to arms in case the ships be followed."
*She looked around once more. Saw Millie and Mollie standing there. Saw the women and children who had come in for a discussion the apple harvest in four months. And once more she lifted her voice*
All those that nae be needed to work, shall pray. Mass will be said and adoration offered. We will pray for God's mercy and for the survivors. And for our own men who will sail the ships.
*And with those few, short words, the dice was thrown. What could she do? Practical matters now were arranged. The horses. Quarters must be arranged for possible wounded. Stocks checked, stillroom readied, infirmary readied. She looked around for any to help her, as the Master Sergeant rushed off to organise the Castles own defences and Captain Stephan to get the ships ready for sail.*
Two hours later, the docks were filled once more. This time the send off was nae as orderly. Fewer men were going, but it seemed the whole village had streamed out to bid them farewell as the ships sailed off and towards Caerfarnon. The would dock near the eagle tower on the advice of both the Captain and the mages, who travelled back with him, each aboard one of the ships. If they would have any chance to help they would need to aproach along the cliffs to try and remain undetected as long as possible, the sailing treacherous, but the maps would help, and Captain Stephan had oft navigated these waters. Three vessels sailed. Two of the biggest merchant ships that could be found. The Wayler and the Stormblade. And one smaller, swifter, and heavily, heavily armed under Captain Stephan's own command. The Pretty Boat. The queen's personal vessel had been send. Once wind and tide had taken the ships otu of sight, a quiet fell over the crowd once more. Men at arms were swiftly directed to their tasks. Women and men set to work in preparing. And all others hurried to the village church or the chapel. To pray God's mercy on those that still lived in the land of Caerfarnon.

((for those wondering about the events at Caerfarnon, here is a thread on their messageboard describing what happened: www.dragons-r-us.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=845. Windstorm currently houses Caerfarnon's wounded, children, some of the women and elderly. Help is appreciated. *W*))

he head heard from another what had happened and what was to come....he heard that there were shiips on there way here and would be back here soon.....he would help in any way he can......the first thing he did was talk to his partner in the smithy and start him on getting something built for the people coming here from the other kingdom.....he knew there was enough room in the castle maybe but he wanted to have extra shelter for them......Kyle himself would convert some places to hold the ones not so hurt....his concern wasthe wounded coming back but he knew those would be sought to by the Queen but he was going to help her out any way he could....
as Richard and Kyle started to build a shelter for the ones coming in here he was told that they made port .....they were not all the way done yet but it would suffice for the time being while we sorted matters out......Kyle went down to the docks and he helped where he could as he irected most where to go for the time being and was trying to make this transition as smooth as possible....he looked upon the faces as they came from the ships...women and children....the old and young.....he just shook his head as yet another kingdom lay in ruin and he sighs some but he oushes on and he goes to where he is needed....he guides the ones that are well enpugh to walk on thier own strength to go to the ready made shelter and then get the wounded, women and children to the castle.....
he looked out over the waters and he saw the other to ships as well and he just looked to all around and what was going on in his head...he shook his head softly and got back to reallity and he left the one ship and he went to the next and he went to chek on those there as well....for now he had just aided people off the ship and guiding them to where they can go.....he had called over for a few guards as soome just fell over with exhaust from the trip and the memories of what happened to their home...seeing the sadness in those eyes but still seeing the hope as well in those very same eyes and he knew they wished for a brighter day...and it would come to them....once all was handled down here he would head back to the castle and see what he could do there as well.....

The camp was empty, no fires smouldered and horses grazed freely, a nothingness filled the air a void, where are the men he left behind when his patrol went out. Of the eighty men only twenty five including himself, Samuel and a first sergeant returned this day to the camp, two scouts had survived hence their return to the camp, the orcs had been unusually tactful in taking his men, the battles which went on through the night had ceased as each time they would re group another attack on them came, each one claiming men, it was a choice he had not relished to take. He would reach the camp and re inforce his patrol and return to battle, though as he looked around the empty camp his heart sank, for the only decision he could now make was one to withdraw, he could see the smouldering remains of where Caernarfon once stood, he turned to Samuel and then to the men with him, only their swords by their sides, no arrows where in the pouches and no bows where there carried for all had been spent in the running battles, they where tired and bloodied some heavily. The options for re inforcements where gone, the battles they had fought where not ones of honor but ones of survival, they had been overrun and paid a heavy price, the order was given to remove all battle garb from their mounts and take only their mounts and enough food til they would find their way back to the sea and onto their home, once again he found himself looking into the obyss only to attempt an escape from these once friendly lands, which now lay broken. The men had removed all from their mounts, they would ride bare back from now on, their escape depended on Samuel and himself knowing when and where to run to. He did not hesitate he turned his mount to the west and his men followed slowly at a walk, the scouts galloped ahead and where soon out of sight of the somewhat diminished column, he tried ti take stock in his mind what had happened to the King and Queen for in his heart he yearned to be with the ones he loved and at least if he was to die then his thoughts be of His Queen and his homelands, for his heart shall always be with them...

The darkness enveloped the troop as it arrived by the sea, the soft lapping sound of water to shore comforted them slightly the moon shone illuminating the cloud from which it hid behind casting shimmering light upon the water which stretched into nothingness, thanks was given in his mind to the gods for taking what was left of his troopers and his friend to the safety of the sea. The men dismounted and moved their mounts to the safety of the sheltered tree line, a boat would come he thought, it had to they had made it thus far they could not and would not die here, he gave the order to light a small fire, upon which they would cook what was caught on the hoof, morcels such as small deer and rabbit, the wounds needed dressing with what he did not know for Dreamy was the one with the knowledge of healing and Edfeil, how he wished now he had taken heed of what he had been shown. He shrugged to the invisible person in front of him as though it was to say he had been too busy doing things to become another healer, there where no berries or leaves which could be held over their wounds, they would wait for now. They sat around the fire no sentries posted there was not enough of them, and they where all hungry so they ate together round the fire, a whisper came upon the soft breeze from the sea, 'oy....oy by the fire' the voice died off, the men looked upon eachother one and all had heared it, taking hands from their mouths they listened in silence, it came again...'oy......oy by the fire, i am in peace art thou the men I seek' He stood and turned from his men and the fire and strained his eyes to search the darkness towards the sea, a figure moved from his left, he took a pace sideways away from it and turned to face it full on. 'Who be thee and whence do thy come from, speak man afore this breath be thy last' The figure stood and drew a deep breath, 'I be with a boat to take thee, weeks have I waited for thee as thy purse is deeper than the sea and ye paid me well, thy last command was to wait for thee, but was not sposed to be ere, I am two mile down the sands thus way, ye direction be out good job I smelled them their rabbits in yer stu' He was not going to stand on ceremony and offered the man food as he had explained his provisions had ran out three days hence, he tucked into the carcasses whilest the men readied themsleves, they would ride to the boat and turn loose their mounts whence aboard.
