Robin – Phelan and I sparred in the pits once, and at that time he seemed to be pleasantly impressed by my skills there. That is what edie was refering to. Phelan never was “teaching” me, Sinold has not had any kind of formal “knighthood teachings” by anyone and so the concept you refer to is still something strange to him. This fight with hawkmoon hopefully will serve as a catalyst to get their aggressions against one another out of their systems! That’s all… nothing noble about their bashing in heads at all! *Smiles*

*Whispers* Robin IS a member, Sinny . . just must not be logged in . .
*A flexible, gossamer braid of scarlet silk to wrap around his upper arm as a token of her support and wish for good luck . . yet with dismay at first, then a secret glow of delight, she realizes it’s a bit too short to fit about his bulging biceps . . *
Yes, perhaps this duel WILL clear the air . .

If I may......... I believe our most gallant and honourable 'First Knight' was hoping the duel could be dealt with in a more admirable manner....without bloodshed. I do not think he realised the whole thing is a role play that has somehow continued in the ooc board. I shall move the thread to the Roleplay section...thus leaving no doubt to the fact that all is well r/t and that we do not have ooc skirmishes on our boards. *Hopes that makes some sense and blows kisses all round*

;)my good Lord Sinold..if I may..a few words of thought..altho I know not of the ways of the sword..I do know of nature..and the ancients of old learned by watching nature..I know to thee that this is nay about winning , nor about loseing..it is to show that no matter what.. thee are a man that will nay back down, and, as thee say, mayhaps allow this antagonistic attitude between the two of thee to be put to rest..but know the the one whom thee do fight shall judge thee by what thee show him in the arena..so..look to the trees, when a wind, stronger then they do attack them, they bow with this wind and allow it to pass them by, and learn from that wind what next to do...look to the streams, when blocked in thier endeaver to move, they fight not what is stronger then they, they seek a new path, one that is nay blocked, nor nay expected..and even the birds of the heavens..they seek to take small jabs and ones that the other expects not to happen..focus within thyself, for within thee have I seen great power and strength,, look not to thy outer body, but to thy inner mind..for remember, I have 1/2 schilling bet upon thee,,and my purse needs be no more empty then it all ready is hahahaha* patting you on the back, I rise and walk slowly away, knowing that you will give a good showing, and mayhaps, even win*

Stepping from the sidelines, or perhaps more properly “DRAWN” from them by this running banter and the topic.
I have spoken with Good Man Sinold of this and he knows my views. For those not with in earshot I will offer just a personal view of this gnashing of teeth and hoofed prodding of the grounds of Windstorm.
This “Duel” should be seen, on the wider scope of activities now surrounding this land, as pointless and having no greater benefit to the Kingdom. This said it must, as I offered Good Man Sinold, occur as the banter has exceeded the time and opportunity to more properly channel the energies.
To illustrate I will offer, from my view, the following outcomes and the resulting effect on this Kingdom of people I feel as family.
Lord Dorian Hawkmoon, as the Captain of the defenses of this castle, as many deem possible or probable, defeats Good Man Sinold. Result, Lord Hawkmoon has supported his claim on his position within the castle and in so doing, beaten down one he may soon need call upon to come to his aid.
Good Man Sinold proves the better on the day. Result, Lord Hawkmoon must plead for another match to make right the standing he holds within the castle. Withstanding this, he might fall deeper into this seeming darkness he has wrapped about him now and question his place and ability to defend his Home and people. One hangs on yet another test of combat and the latter perches Windstorms defenses weaker for the loss.
These outcomes offer neither is severely injured in this, should a misstep or missed strike defense do grievous harm to either, Windstorm weakens.
In the end, it is right and proper that men who are charged to defend the Home should test their skills and teach one another of short falls. The aim of such contests, should be to better one another and in so doing better the safety of the Home. In have to date seen not a word offered that goal is indeed the intent in this.
I bid you both good fortune in this contest of pride and shall hope for the best result of a poor challenge.

Steps OOC for a moment to explain...
I just wish to assure everyone that might be concerned that this is no "grudge" between myself and Sinold's player....this is strictly a roleplay that we have both agreed to....we have actually been developing our players along similiar lines, I think....both are incredibly dedicated men who come from very different cultures and backgrounds....for those of you that don't know, Dorian has a royal background, though he downplays it....if you will, he is very "old school" in his manerisms....with courtly manners and etiquette. Sinold is from an essentially barbaric culture...and by that I mean his culture has had to fight...sometimes brutally...just to survive...so Dorian would seem a bit foppish to him, perhaps....just as Dorian would see him as an ill mannered, disrespectful barbarian. But they have these things in common....they will protect those that they love with every means at their disposal...honour and integrity is everything to them...and they're both stubborn as Missouri mules. We've kept the antagonisation between our charrs simply for this reason....it's just been fun to do. All of our problems have come from outside sources....ie....the Norse invasion....Amelrick, et al....so it's rather different to see some internal conflict, for a change...and remember...it's almost natural that each man would have some grudge agains the other...Sinold lost his brother in the invasion....and Dorian was very nearly killed in defense of the Castle. And on a final note...please look beyond the apparent hostility between the two to see the things that have developed because of it....Sinold's and Halethala's relationship has grown from it...Dorian's relationship with Siya is deepening due to it...I don't know which one will "win"....that will be determined at the spar...but I do think that no matter the outcome, each will lose a little, perhaps.....but gain a great deal more....

ooc:
Nothing like barbaric civility to prove the mettle of one self hmm? *sighs and grins* Would be much easier to settle on the archery range, but ahh well, such are my customs. Oh, do expect a few elven stories to come from and to this duel. It would hardly be proper otherwise. *laughs melodically*

Ever watched "Big Country" with Gregory Peck and Charlton Heston? Its one of the classic Westerns, and in it Peck's and Heston's characters have a grudge against one another. heston challenges Peck openly in front of his (Heston's) big boss and Peck's future wife, and Peck declines to accept. Of course after that he is being seen as a total wuss and is being looked down upon by his future bride and her dad (Heston's boss). So, one night, when nobody is looking, Peck goes to heston and they have it out in the prairie in a fist fight until neither of them can stand any longer.
The both agree to crawl to bed after that, but from that moment on, the air is clear between them and they can both respect one another.
Great movie, great scene. And that is how I view this duel between Hawkmoon and Sinny. At least Sinny need to show Hawkmoon that he is not a barbarian and deserves his respect, apart from all those honor considerations. He needs thing, Hawkmoon maybe less (I dunnow). But after this fight I hope they will know where they stand. Of course I am aware that it may solve nothing – Hawkmoon simply beating the shit out of Sinny and turning away still thinking him a yapping whelp. That's the risk Sinny is taking, but if he wouldn't take it – this antagonism always would eat at him!
Daniel is right in his assessment in that this duel serves no purpose for the realm. but many things happening between people (and character) do not serve anyone or anything but their own egos and satisfaction. Daniel also told Sinny something very true and something that has made Sinny begin to think a it different about this whole affair: Hawkmoon and Sinny are part of the same family now, they are brothers, and as Daniel said – brother do quarrel from time to time!
So please see this as that... a quarrel, a dispute which needs to be resolved, one way or the other.
And yes, Dorian's player and Sinny's player are very kewl with one another! *smiles and hugs* Only wish i would see him more online so I can pick on him some more *sticks tongue out!
