I am grumpy. While at the beginning of the week it seemed as if my cold was going to go away, it has the last two days worsened, and moved from my chest to my head. Ugh. I have been looking forward to this weekend away for 4 months and now I am going there with a head full of... well... just full. On top of that I haven't been able to keep the house clean this week. And everyone knows what a mess a 1 year old boy can make of a house in one week and my in laws are arriving within a couple of hours. I just kept expecting things to go better so I could put in some decent work. But when I read both of your posts, I feel humbled amidst all my complaining.

Quick greetings from Washington. I still have a cold, but we traveled from Columbia SC to Washington DC today. We had to get up at 4.30 am to be at the airport in time, but we arrived well. It's icy cold here. Probably Letha would laugh at me, but it came as a surprise for me, since I have gotten used to SC temperatures. On the plus side,my coat held up nicely against the cold weather. Only my face gets chilled! The hotel is the most fancy place I have ever seen!! All the rooms surround an enormous indoor courtyard under a cupola. On the bottom there is a kind of pool, where there actually is a little piano on an island. Everything is just so pretty and shiny. I feel like a child in a big candy store. I only wish this horrid cold would abate. Tomorrow morning we are going on a tour of the White House, and probably later in the day to the museum of American History. Someone told me they have Dorothy's ruby slippers there as well. If I have time and feel up to it, I might try and go to the House of the Daughters of the Revolution on sunday. Big plans. In the mean time, my little boy is spending his first day away from me, and apparently hasn't missed me at all. Of course I am glad that he isn't too unhappy, but I had expected at least one pitiful "mama"? Clearly he isn't missing me at all In the morning, he even pushed the telephone away when I wanted to speak to him. Too busy playing!

I'm back from Washington. Too little time now (I'm on a library pc and have 5 minutes) to tell all my adventures. But I had great fun. It was wonderful to just be able to spend quality time with Bill. Aparently his grandparents had no problem at all with Joseph. He behaved like a little angel and didn't seem to miss me at all. I can't wait to see him tomorrow though. Aside from wandering the streets of Washington, is went to visit the White House, the newly reopened National Museum of History, the national Archives and the national museum of art. Some were great, others were not so great. Despite the fact that Bill needed to work at the conference we got to spend more time together than usual, which was extra fun, especially for his birthday!

Brrrrr.........chilly and damp here yet again......I have decided I really don't have any blood flowing in my veins *L* I have thick socks, a thermal vest AND fingerless gloves on and the temperature is not really that cold! It must be something to do with being less active *chuckles* but no.....I am not in the mood for gardening *S* It was colder yesterday morning but, wrapped up warm and prepared for some walking and shopping, I was actually quite warm in my winter coat, even my Husband commented on being a tad chilly. The weather improved as the day wore on and we didn't arrive home until after 4pm. We left home about 9am and the drive is only half an hour *L* My Husband must have been enjoying himself, could have been the lingering smell of brewing hops and the close proximity of a splendid old Pub. That and the fact I promised to drive home so he could have just one more pint of Harvey's *LOL* I must say another wonderful day spent in the small market town of Lewes, one of our frequent haunts the past few years, most enjoyable place with a mixture of individual shops and antique/browsing places that we love. So many memories come back when one sees something from the past. We were actually quite blown away when we came across a box of old decorations, the kind we both had as children, hanging crepe paper chains that we never ever thought we would ever see again! I treated myself to a beautiful bowl from a Polish pottery, I had seen previously but not yet taken the plunge to buy, and with some Christmas presents, I also found a wonderful marble 'egg' for my collection on one of the Antique shops. Suffice to say I went home with a smile! Quite an amazing day out and such fun. Indeed a wonderful day *VBS* www.lewesonline.com/I must wish you all across the waters a very Happy Thanksgiving Day......and hope you stay warm, safe and well as the season of joy continues. A note for poor Repsol.......how sorry to hear of your car! That is awful and we sincerely hope everything is settled soon for you and that you are not too greatly out of pocket! to all.

Sounds like a beautiful little town and a wonderful time. We just returned from St Louis and are pretty happy not to have to travel again for at least a few weeks. Traveling with a todler IS a challenge, but all in all, Joseph behaved very nicely. I am proud of my little boy. He looks very cute in all the new clothes grandma bought him, and he had his first Thanksgiving dinner. He was there of course last year, but this year he was sitting in his high chair at the table and eating some of the same things as we. Especially the sweet potatoes were a favorite! And the cranberries of course.

Each last saturday of November I celebrate my own kind of Thanksgiving. I invite my closest of friends, and offer them an evening of friendship, good food, drinks and lots and lost of laughter.
Yesterday there were 11 in total. The menu as follows
Creamed cauliflowersoup with smoked eel and watercress Turnip potato mash with nutmeg Calf's meat stew Grand dessert: stewed sweat pears with lebkuchen, cinnamon clotted cream and balls of marzipain.
The evening is a time for me to celebrate the brilliance of each of my friends. And I can tell youy this. I enjoyed it!
May take me a week or the to get the xtra weight off again! But it was worth it!
