Indeed, guards had been dispatched, and the wayward Captain of the Gloriarc was found, though not in any of the local watering holes as it were, but actually aboard the Glori, the ship a-bustle with preparations to get underway. Following them back he had closely eyed the obviously nervous Queen, the richness of the parcel he was to bear telling him what it most likely contained, especially considering the other letter he carried, tucked away safely to be delivered to his father as well. Nodding easily and assuring her he would deliver it into the Kings hands himself, he took his leave and headed back down to the docks to just catch the tide.
***********************************************************************************************************
King Magnus was in one of the smaller audience chambers, going over preparations for his eldest sons wedding, some few scant weeks away when the chamberlain knocked and entered, bringing word that the Gloriarc had just been sighted entering port. While his middle son might like to play the part of Captain, coming home he was still the Prince, so his ship was watched for most closely. Dismissing everyone with one or two last instructions so far as regards the wedding before turning towards the window, the docks not quite visible from this room as he ponders what news his middle son brings, hoping it to be good, but realistic enough to know it may not be so.
A brief time later, he is brought out of his thoughts by a quiet knock at the door again before it opens to reveal his middle son, for once dressed in his Court attire as he enters, pausing a second to look at his father. Magnus in turn taking a moment to look over his middle son, making sure all his fingers and such are still there, given the dangers of a sea-faring life, before moving to hug him firmly and draw him inwards, closing the door behind him. After the brief hug, Ulbrecht draws back far enough to produce both missives, first the simpler one with his uncles seal on it, then the ornate holder of the scroll from Queen Edfeil. Accepting them both with an arched eyebrow before waving Ulbrecht over to the sideboard to get himself a drink while he moves to settle in one of the chairs by the window. Opening first the letter from his brother, reading it over quickly, both eyebrows raising though his lips curl in a smile, offering it to Ulbrecht to read as he settles into the chair opposite. Ulbrecht shaking his head, already aware of it's contents for the most part as he had been there with his uncle while he was writing it. Setting that letter aside for now as he carefully opens the ornate carrier, gently unrolling it and letting his eyes scan over it slowly once, and then a second time. Passing the far fancier letter to his middle son to read, waiting and accepting it back when he had finished before setting it to one side. Few knew how much he relied on his sons eyes and knowledge, in this case Ulbrechts knowledge of the situation in Windstorm, as they sat and conversed for several hours. Finally sending Ulbrecht off to visit his brothers and to congratulate his eldest brother on his long-delayed nuptials. Turning then once he was alone and drawing a scroll of parchment to him along with his quill and ink...
To Her Royal Majesty, Queen Edfeil of Windstorm, from the hand of His Royal Majesty King Magnus II of Fryseland;
Greetings from Fryseland Your Majesty, and may Providence continue to smile upon you and yours.
Many are the bonds that bind us together, and one of the chief amongst them are the bonds of friendship, especially such friendship as lies between our two fair lands. To strengthen such bonds as you speak of would be most admirable and a delight to myself and all of the House of Jelckama.
His Highness is a man well-known and regarded both at home and abroad as a man of integrity and Honor, and as his Liege Lord and Sovereign of Fryseland, We would find the union between himself and as well-respected and noble a Lady as yourself would indeed be most pleasing to Us. We know of no reasons that such a union can not be made, and are in agreement that such would be most joyous and advantageous to both Houses and lands.
We look forward to hearing from You once more, knowing that this matter is agreeable to all, as well as extending to Yourself and those of your Court as wish to attend, an invitation to join Us at the wedding of Crown Prince Burhardt, as Our Guests, where we might speak of such matters as seem welcome to all.
By My hand and seal, in deepest respect and friendship,
Magnus.

The letter arrived and caught them at their breakfast. The fire crackled merrily, their son Calendorian was wearing more food than he was eating, she could tell because of the amount of giggles she was hearing, and dogs (plural) where fighting over falling crumbs. In her arms was their youngest Cam, eating his own version of breakfast...much to the horror and embarrassment of the messenger judging by the way he stumbled and stuttered over his words.
She couldn't have been happier, could careless about the messenger, she had a blanket draped over her for modesty sake. Keiren took the letter, and with barely a glance or comment dismissed the man, sending him to the kitchens for some food and warmth while he opened the note and read it out loud for her.
Both of them were extremely pleased and had a lengthy conversation which ended abruptly as some sort of catastrophe happened out in the training yards. She heard the name Fred, and that there was more than enough explanation for her. She took it upon herself to pen the response. The babe sleeping in her arms, she called for her dear friend Lady Jessamine to write for her.
Greetings Your Majesty, Queen of Windstorm,
I hope and pray that this letter finds you well and in good health. Please let my introduce myself, my name is Leleanda and I have had the great pleasure of marrying Keiren Al'thor. As such he and your Lady Loxley, have told me a great many things about your person. And I do so look forward to meeting you. Which, is why I am writing you, your letter was received just this morning, and we couldn't have be more pleased to hear that you will be supporting this cause. It is a good one, and, one we hoped to discuss with you in person.
Your very generous offer of wool, has given us a great many ideas to which we discussed in some length before he was called off to deal with some emergency. Have you ever meet our Fred? Anyways, I digress, and time here is of importance.
Things for the festival are well under way, the issue with Orcs dealt with for now, crazy weather that has turned out both to be a boon. We find ourselves amazingly with some free time before the auction. As we've been having correspondence with your dear sweet Lady Loxley, and now with your most generous offer, we would dearly love to arrange a visit for the end of this week, if you would open your home to us?
I send this letter in all possible haste, and hope that we'll not be an imposition. I eagerly look forward to meeting you and Dream both.
Most sincerely, Leleanda Al'thor, Empress of Arahdan.
She had it read back to her several times, and hoped she wasn't being to presumptuous but she really did hope to travel Windstorm and meet these two ladies whom she has heard so much about. A second letter was composed, a quick and small note to Lady Loxley, explained that they may be meeting sooner rather than later.
Notes penned and sealed, and Milford once more outfitted for the ride, she bid him all haste in his journey this time. Excitement coursed through her and worry...one could only guess what sort of trouble Fred caused. She handed the babe to the nanny, whistled for her new friend, a large ball of fluff called Miriam, she went in search of her husband her 'seeing stick' as she had dubbed it tapping quietly before her.

((So sorry for keeping you waiting.....I seem to take one step forward and half of one back every now and then, just when I feel it's safe to write the boards again! *L*))
*Duty had kept her busy of late, too busy to find a moment to sit and reply to her friends. Their letters deserved her full attention and she was enjoying both receiving and sending them back and forth. Now she found she had three in her possession, and taking advantage of a little spare time, she replied to them all at once, a brief not to show her appreciation.*
My Dear friends, Keiren and Lele,
I was thrilled to hear you have returned home although I would not wish that awful weather upon my enemies, let alone my friends. I do hope you stay warm and safe through the harness of winter time. I have shown the recipe to our cook and he tells me we shall try it out soon. He is rather a stubborn and aggressive individual yet I do seem to be able to get through his hard exterior at times, which is most beneficial to us all! Thank you again for sharing your experiences and adventures with me.
Lele, I adored the scrub and look forward to creating some of my own perhaps with the aid of our Laurestina, a colourful lady with such skills with herbs and such, I am sure with aid we can create something similar.
I have been kept busy here with stock taking and general duties that have kept me from writing, and now i hear tell of a visit from ye both. I am so excited and shall await meeting ye before I run out of things to speak about.
I understand Queen Edfeil is sending wool and other offerings but I have decided on giving two jars of the Arnica ointment for your good cause raffle and four of Windstorm's finest Apple Tree saplings, the latter may have to stay in their sacking pots until your weather improves but they should yield well in a few years time. I have also enclosed this time with your lads, a small token of coins for the Orphanage. It pleases me greatly that I have my own money with which to do such and I ask that this donation be taken in the name of my beloved Robin of Loxley. I know he would wish to help if he were able.
I am looking forward very much to seeing you both and wish you safe and speedy travels.
Warmest regards to you both
Dream.
P.S. Dear Lele, the children are loving the story books and actually look forward to bedtime even more.

*it had surprised her, pleasantly surprised her, to see a messenger return so fast. Thoughts of the auction and how they could contribute formed a pleasant diversion. She opened the scroll while seated at the large table, pen and ink ready, then smiled at the contents and immediately formed her reply.*
To her Imperial Majesty Leleanda Al'thor of Arahdan, from the pen of Edfeil Stormblade de Ruoma,
Yer Majesty,
it was with great joy I read yer letter. I have oft wish to travel to Arahdan to meet ye, yet this year duties have kept me close to our own borders. I would be more than grateful to have the opportunity to welcome ye and the emperor in Windstorm. Hospitality has always been the core of our our home. And nae ever is such more of a joy than in welcoming old and new friends.
*The ink had dried into the parchment here, making it clear that she had thought on how to phrase something before adding the next sentence.*
While Windstorm's lands are usually peaceful we have experienced some incidents recently that prompt me to urge ye to travel with full retinue, or at the least several experienced men. I doubt there will be any problems, but I would nae be easy without having mentioned this.
Looking forward to meeting ye, and praying for God's blessing upon ye and yers.
Be loved and blessed,
Edfeil Stormblade de Ruoma. R.
*the letter had been written hasty to allow it to leave her hands and be on it's way soon, so it would reach Aradhan at the earliest possible time. It was less formal than the usual missive she would pen, but she hoped 't would nae be taken amiss. After all, iffen a visit was to be prepared for the end of the week, there were preparations to be made.*

By the hand of Keiren Al'thor, First of his Name, Lord Fairhaven, Prince of the Wolf Wood, Emperor of Arahdan
Sent by peregrine falcons and rocs, it was wrapped in velum and velvet, sealed in silken strings, and impressed with the blazing seal of the Empire.

*The letter was not as formal as the previous one that had been sent to the Frysian court. A last draft, it would be before the contracts were formalized. It was written in careful letters in the queen's own hand and with her seal affixed to it once before rolling the parchment. Then it was wrapped in leather and put in a heavy leather holder, around which a ribbon was affixed that once more held her seal. The messenger had been impressed with the importance of the missive, though this time, she had nae summoned Ulbrecht himself. Instead, the Pretty Boat, the queen's own ship which rarely left Windstorm waters without her would be send on the journey.*
To His Highness King Magnus of Fryseland, from the pen of Queen Edfeil Stormblade Ruoma,
Yer Highness,
I must thank ye once more for yer hospitality during the feast for yer oldest son's wedding. I am certain he and his bride will have a happy union and I pray the Lord to bless it with many children. We spoke of many things and I would like to put the last arrangements to paper so you and your council can formalize them and affix the approval of Fryseland to this union in all it's details. I hope we would be able to announce a betrothal at the beginning or the end of the yule feasts of this year, if You as sovereign of Fryseland, would give your approval to the following arrangements.
With this union, Queen Edfeil Stormblade de Ruoma will be wed to His Highness Prince Gregor of Fryseland in goodwill and with the good wishes of both families and lands.
Both husband and wife will be allowed to retain the titles that have preciously been bestowed upon them, and receive the right to carry the titles and honours corresponding to their spouses, with the specification that Prince Gregor will hold the title of Prince Consort in Windstorm, and a grant of land for his personal property. There will be no request made to formally renounce ties to Fryseland, though an oath of loyalty to Windstorm will be part of the festivities of the union, made before God and upon honor.
The firstborn male that God grants through this union will be crown prince of Windstorm and be granted the right of inheritance and reign upon his majority, allowing his father the right to regency in case the queen would predecease his rule. Further inheritance of titles and lands belonging personally to Prince Gregor will be at his discretion bestowed upon his heirs, with no further stipulation made at the time of this contract being written, save that they are not to be leaving the line of his direct heirs and will revert to the Frysian crown upon the death of both him and his wife if no heirs follow. In respect of the succession of the Windstorm throne and legacy, his highness Prince Gregor has agreed to allow any children of the line to carry the name of Stormblade, without negating their rights in the line of succession to the house of Jelckama.
These arrangements are made in goodwill and good faith, if approved by both Windstorm and Fryseland, and providing no legal or moral objections are discovered, will be considered binding upon the day of marriage.
I hope the words will find approval and favor in Fryseland. If they do, the conditions of the betrothal will be send out to our allied realms so that each upon those in treaty with Windstorm will be, upon the wedding, be honor bound to support any rightful claims your brother will make for himself or his heirs.
May you and your family be loved and blessed, and pleace convey my special regards and gratitude to Inka.
Edfeil R. Windstorm.

And so finally the Pretty Boat returned to Windstorm once more, having been held in Fryseland by the Kings command, at the suggestion of the Harbormaster, to avoid a series of particularly potent winter storms upon the northern seas. The Captain and crew put up out of the Kings Privy purse so as to not be inconvenienced overly other than the delay, which was for the safety of the men, as well as the missive the Captain carried. Upon docking, the Captain made all haste to the castle, knowing the importance of the missive entrusted to him, being shown in at once to Her Majesty, to once again hand over the well-traveled leather case. The letter within returned with your draft, a more private missive, the King obviously trusting to Gregor to write it up formally there.
To Her Royal Majesty, Queen Edfeil of Windstorm, from the hand of His Royal Majesty King Magnus II of Fryseland;
My dearest Queen Edfeil,
It is with great pleasure I received your missive, and note that it was wonderful to have Your presence for such a joyous occasion. Upon looking over your draft, it appears to be quite in order, and as we had spoken of prior, though a thought or two has occurred to me since your return to Windstorm to be included,
Notably that for the children of this union, the Crown and Throne of Windstorm shall hold precedence, in that the Crown Prince shall stand outside the line of succession of Fryseland, so that there shall be no question of Fryseland leaving Windstorm deprived of it rightful Heir. In all other manners the Crown Prince shall be accorded the full rights and privileges of His station.
In truth I have thought of naught else to include at this time, but to affirm that all here are looking forward to the announcement most anxiously, and if Your Majesty is indeed able to make such during the Yule festivities there, then I shall follow with a pronouncement here to celebrate the New Year.
The Crown Princess sends her thanks to Your Majesty, along with her own warmest regards and well-wishes, and most heartily looks forward to welcoming Her as a member of the family quite soon.
With Our deepest regards and in warmest friendship,
Magnus

*It was nae a letter she had written easily, even though the words had been put on the paper swiftly. For a moment she had considered going herself, but she knew iffen she spoke of it she would be forbidden to put her life at such risk. And iffen she deliberately nae spoke of it she would deceive those that cared for her. So a messenger had been send on the journey to the Citadel, carrying the crest of Windstorm on his tunic in the hopes that such would keep him safe. She had hesitated over the wording, nae wishing to reveal too much in case the missive was intercepted*
To Lord Rutger Verrier, from the pen of Queen Edfeil Stormblade de Ruoma
Lord Verrier,
I address this letter to ye since I nae know whom else I would write with such a question. Yet there be little I dare to entrust to paper. Windstorm is facing a problem that relates to the expertise of some who inhabit the Citadel. I would beg yer aide in sending me someone who could offer me council. I know the Citadel and Windstorm have long offered one another aide when needed, yet I would nae ask any man to work without pay, so coin will be offered in return for the work. We have had several good harvests, praise be to God, so I would nae wish for ye to be fearful of the *there the ink had darkened as if instead of being blotted it had dried in the parchment while she sought for the right word* work would nae be valued.
May ye be loved and blessed,

*The letter was presented by a messenger wearing the Windstorm crest, though once the leather scroll in which it came had been opened, the missive wore the queen's personal seal.*
To Her Majesty Queen Caera Anne, from the pen of Queen Edfeil Stormblade de Ruoma,
Me friend,
I beg ye to allow me to thank ye for yer kindness when I made me unexpected journey. I nae meant to disturb ye with what must seem a small matter to ye. Ye were born to reign and while, as ye say, the mantle of such nae be laying lightly on any shoulders, ye seem stronger often in bearing it. And yet when I came, ye showed naught but kindness and understanding. I would ask ye even so to also convey me gratitude to lord Thomas Peregrine. He nae was obliged in any way to offer comfort to one he nae knew, save for the kindness of a dance, and yet he did so. Me mother used to say that the strength of a man be measured in the way he deals with those weaker than himself. She would have approved of his kindness.
Though I faint dare ask more of ye, I would beg ye to inform me of the condition of Goodman Gabriel. I was grateful by the kindness he showed me in his friendship, but greatly disturbed by the way his health seemed to have faded. I know Caerfarnon has many a great healer, and I entrust him to yer care in sending him to such. Iffen he were to refuse.. we have a brother who has taken up residence in Windstorm, who has a great knowledge of healing herbs and I be certain would be willing to send some.
Prince Kendrick was kind enough to accompany me on the journey home to Windstorm to see to me safety, though I can assure ye that I be well guarded now at all times. I can but pray that further worries will be ill founded and that peace will reign once more over our lands. Even so, I nae think I will be allowed to travel again soon, but I wished to assure ye of me gratitude and friendship, and I hope the roads will soon be safe once more.
Be loved and blessed,
Edfeil Stormblade de Ruoma. R.

The letter that Astridur leaves with a page to give to the intended. She did not really know how to get a hold of the man any other way at this point. She knew there would by more stress created by it, but she felt this needed to be done.
To his Royal Highness, Prince Dieter, from the hand of Good woman Astridur.
Dear dear Dieter,
I have felt a need to visit the place that I had been at before coming to Windstorm. I feel there is a reason that I must go there and it is to Arnshall. I do not know if you have heard of it, but there is a large gathering of my people there and I think it best to see it before too long. I should not be away for too long, please do not worry. I will be safe and in good hands, I believe this to be true.
Be safe and well,
Astridur EyFrid

*The scroll had been sent off in great haste. Still the lettering was formal, as was the address. Once finished, the precious parchment had been sealed with both her personal seal and Windstorm's official one. Then it had been sent off with one of Windstorm's trusted messengers at the earliest tide.*
To Lord Caius Vermillius, from the pen of Edfeil Stormblade de Ruoma, Queen of Windstorm,
Dear Lord Caius,
I can nae express the joy I felt when hearing from Her Majesty Queen Hippolyta that ye soon be to wed a woman of both kindness and strength. Her Majesty has naught but good words for yer affianced bride and I am most eager to have the chance to meet her. Hopefully even before the wedding which I believe is to take place at Beltane? Ye have mine and all of Windstorm's good wishes on what I am certain will be a happy union. It seems as if this year Our Lord has blessed many. Before this moon be over Lord Tristram of Maclaaran will be wedding his betrothed Meagan, and this past yule season betrothal contracts between meself and His Royal Highness Gregor, Prince of Fryseland and Duke of Groningen were signed, with the marriage to follow this year. As such I have a favor to ask ye, but such be better done in person. Iffen 't be welcome to ye I would love to travel to Tara as the frosts of the year be over and travel be safer, or I would hope to see ye in the halls of Windstorm once more. It has been too long since last I had the benefit of yer counsel, and certainly such happy occasions warrant a visit.
Wishing ye all the blessings of Our Lord, upon the coming year and upon the betrothal. May prosperity and peace be reigning over the lands of Tara and Rome.
May ye be loved and blessed,
Edfeil R.[/i]

*She had spoken of writing the letters for days. Mayhap it was good they had nae been dictated in the first day after the poisoning. The words she had heard since then, of those sworn to protect Windstorm and her, warning her nae to isolate herself now guided her pen and diffused the fear. Even her hand had grown steady again, and the words seemed to flow more natural, save for once. She chose two of her more reliable messengers, then decided with those who had recently returned home, the castle would be safe enough to send the master Sergeant himself to the Citadel.
To Lord Rutger Verrier, from the pen of Queen Edfeil Stormblade de Ruoma
Lord Verrier,
I hope ye and yers be well and that the Citadel remains safe and well guarded. I had hoped to see ye at Caernarfon's ball but will be unable to travel to attend. Therefor I must entrust a question to paper that I would have preferred nae to ask. The messenger that brings these words be reliable and would nae allow it to fall in strange hands while travelling. *the ink there had dried into the parchment as iffen she had pondered a long time before going on, searching for the right words, and when the words went on, it was clear she had written swiftly as iffen to entrust the question to paper before she lost courage.* . Iffen a contract were taken out on someone's life, would such be able to be bought off with coin. And if nae would it end with the death of the one who had given the order in the first place? I know ye know many of different skills and could easier obtain the answer to such in a reliable way than I. I pray ye and yers remain safe and well. May ye be loved and blessed,
Edfeil Stormblade de Ruoma. R.
To her Royal Majesty, Queen Caera Anne of Caernarfon from the pen of Edfeil Stormblade de Ruoma, Queen of Windstorm
Me dear friend, I pray this missive finds ye well and that Goodman Kaylyn will have arrived home well and safe after his visit to our lands by the time this reaches ye. I am afraid I will be unable to travel to Caernarfon in time for the ball, though ye must know me desire to attend such. Ye know there has been much turmoil in Windstorm these last months and I fear me health nae yet allows me such a journey so soon after the wedding of Lord Tristram, which I can nae miss. I will however strive to come and visit as soon as the chance be there. I hope all within both Castle and City be well. And I must thank ye for the magnificent lace ye have given me. The preparations for the wedding be going on, and I have much to speak of. Hopefully we can have word at the wedding.
Be loved and blessed, me friend,
Edfeil R.
((Will add the third letter in later.))

-He ponders the letter.. his brow furrowed before putting pen to paper... the last had been delayed in His reception of it so He was happy that Gerben had brought this one Himself-
Ye Majesty,
Aye, We are well here and hoping the same can be said for Your home and its inhabitants. The answer to your question is quite complex, as one never knows the mind of such individuals, though in many cases, a good amount of coin over their offer will buy off such a contract, however, that does nay mean another cannot, or will not take it up. As far as death coming to the initiator of said contract, that be dependent on the relationship between the one who called for the contract and the one that accepted it.
Please advise if further council is needed. Be safe and well

((Duplicate post with the Blackthorne Bluff board))
*the letter arrived by messenger, a slightly grubby lad with an adventurous twinkle in his green eyes, and the clear impression of someone trying to teach him courtly manners. This had been his first assignment outside of Windstorm and he was absolutely determined for it to be a success. The letter he was entrusted with was rolled in oiled leather, and bore Edfeil's personal seal. The lettering was done in haste instead of the usual careful penmanship, and the address much more familiar than was her wont.
Me dear friend,
I can nae express what I thought when I read yer missive. It has been so long. We thought.. well nae mind what we were thinking for clearly we were wrong. It is so good, so good to hear from ye. Oh, I hope soon to be able to visit ye, and see for meself how ye are faring. For now, I pray young Erwin does well in reaching ye. Oh there be so much to tell. So much to hear. Have ye been well? Tell me about yer home? Are ye happy, me friend? Much has happened in Windstorm too, and I hope to share all with ye. Pritthee, write back when ye have the chance. Erwin be young, but he be eager, and ready to carry back any missive ye send. He nae knows his letters but he has an excellent memory and I know ye will offer him shelter till ye can send him back to me.
Be loved and blessed, and praised be God in hearing from ye,
Edfeil.
