The old lady was well again, and Sinold again send a prayer up to Thor and Odin. Seemed his sacrifice on her behalf had worked just fine… who needed medicine and healers when there were the Gods? Had he been around when Letha got infected with those horrible worms she had told him about, a chicken or two would have made her well again much faster!
They had spoken last night, the old lady and Sinold. Lady Aethelbred had made him apologize for the milk accident which Sinold had finally apologized (although he still didn't feel it was his fault). She had accepted, they had shaken hands… and the she had dropped a stone upon his shoulders:
The lovely lady Sadhbh had been present as well, and even though her mother Lady Aethelbred would leave in the morning, she had ordered her daughter to stay in Windstorm while the Frankish threat was afoot. Sinold was to look after her and protect her with his life - as compensation for his blunder with the milk.
What did Sinold know about looking after women? Or rather ladies like Sadhbh, the Dove of Kent? Lord Thanatos was present when this new tas was heaped upon Sinold's broad shoulders, and gave some advise to the befuddled Norse. Yes, Sinold would have to die for her if nee be. Yes, he would need to watch her when she was about and none of her relatives could look after her. No, he didn't need to bring her to bed himself. And also No, he didn't have to be present when she heeded natures call.
The young lady herself had indicated that looking after her would be quite an arduous task, Sinold wasn't sure if that task given to him by the queen of Kent was a blessing or a punishment. Time and the days ahead would tell, he was certain.
What he was also certain of was to never give Sadhbh meade again when her brother was around. Even one mug of honey wine had made the woman tipsy, so much so that he felt compelled, under the goading by Lord Thanatos, to carry the lady up the stairs to her room. Just when Lord Sighehelm had appeared.
All went well, the lady was delivered to her room, and Sinold also made his way to his own chambers, pondering the new turn of events and his new responsibility.
