A letter to Lady Jessica

He sat in his chambers, taking a deep breath, the task at hand difficult and …delicate. He took a piece of parchment and a quill, dipping it into the ink pot. He began to write:


“My dearest Lady Jessica,

To write this to you pains me most, but I have to confess that my behaviour recently has been quite erratic, as you might say. Not become a noble and certainly not becoming any future husband of yours. I must deeply apologize for such and beg your forgiveness, in the wish that there still is hope for us in the future.

I will travel to Frankia for a few weeks to settle some affairs, also regarding our union. These decisions will require my personal attention back home, so I shall leave soon, likely before having a chance to see you and bespeak you in person. I regret this greatly, as it would have been my wish to tell this face to face.

Also, I have made a decision regarding the boy Gernot, whom you might have seen or spoken to. He has been with me for many years, and he has grown most dear in my heart. So dear as a son, indeed. Therefore, it is my wish to adopt him as my son once I’ll return to Windstorm. Milady, please let me assure you that any son of ours would be rightful heir to my estates and wealth, and yet… Gernot has a special place in my heart and I wish for him the protection and due education given to a member of my family. Please understand and accept my ecision in this matter. I will not be swayed otherwise!

I look forward to my return to Windstorm and too meeting with you gain, my sweet lady! I regret that we may have started on uneasy terms and am sure I will be in better moods once my business in West Frankia will be settled.

He sealed the letter and gave it to a page to bring to Lady Sofia so she could give it to the Lady Jessica

**Ironically enough the pageboy brought the letter to the petite woman's chambers, jsut as she was composing a missive to Queen Edfeil about her conversation with De Sennis this morning. She takes the folded packet and lets the small boy practice his best courtly bow before departing. Now she sits again, and resumes writing in Latin, never reading the sealed missive entrusted to her.

My Lady Queen,
As per Your Royal wish, an inquiry has been made regarding the Ambassador's wishes as regards the boy Gernot, during a visit this very morning in the Great Hall before he was departing. As the Ambassador was of clear and calm demeanour and disposition, being most cognizant in detail and awareness, I do believe his words to be spoken in the presence of his own mind. This being the case, Lord De Sennis has spoken his express intent to adopting Gernot as his own son, having in his soul a much paternal feeling for the boy. Also in speaking of such terms, in his capacity as guardian at this time, the Ambassador did express much approval and thanks for placing of the boy for training as Squire, and for his care in Your Majesty's realm, and in planning for future needs will be wishing him to advance in the fullness of proper time to knighthood as will befit a Noble son.

Reading the simple short missive she scans several times, then nods and folds and seals it. Now She calls to the maids int eh hall, one coming up hurriedly to take the sealed letter to Her Majesty "straightaway".

* Having been getting better but still tried alot as I woke up feeling much better and ready for the world a letter caught my attention. Noting it was not from my Madre but Rainald as I cracked the seal on it and read it. Feeling my brows knit together as I read it slowly a second time as I tried to understand. The lad he spoke of I had seen and said a few words in passing I had no issue with if he wished to adopt him as his own. I was more disturbed at the line of "not swayed other wise", as if he would think I would gainsay him over this. Shaking my head as I read onward wondering if he would come back. Time will tell much in his return if he did. Folding the letter up as I put it under the pillow as I went to see about a bath to rid myself of feeling sick so I could feel more human again.*

*Looking out a window as I thought for awhile with a soft sigh* Padre, keep an eye on Rainald, he might not fully like you, but he's one I think you would have liked if my choice. So far he's the only one who seems to want me. *Crossing myself as I left the window and moved about to have that bath*

After many days they had reached the eastern coast of the British Isles. A boat was already waiting, three Frankish guards waiting for Lord Rainald, who asked the Windstorm guards to bring Mirage back to Windstorm to when he would return.

He boarded the ship and set off to the Frankian lands.

He had thought often of the Lady Jessica. so head-strong, so beautiful. The further he went from Windstorm's lands, the more he felt a pull back, because of her! How dreadfully he had behaved, how much shame he felt about that! He vowed to restore his honor when he'd return to Windstorm, with another wedding present for the lady.

"Lady Jessica, Oh... I would never have known how your image follows me in my mind, and how strong my feelings are growing for your touch and your love. Wait for me, I pray... wait for me!"

This he spoke to himself as the waves lapped at the side of the boat which slowly approached the Frankian coast.
