*Dream dismounted and left Biscuit in the capable hands of young Perran. After a warm greeting and a few pleasant exchanges of news, she made her way across the Courtyard to the small kitchen door that had become so welcoming. Rather than be formally announced into the Great Hall, she preferred to slip in and out of the Castle whilst collecting supplies and enjoying the company of the Servants. Soon enough the time would come for her small family to return when the weather became too cold and wet to manage living in the little house at the beach.
She greeted cook and made herself comfortable on the wooden bench that had become so familiar of late, listening as cook took great pleasure in describing his latest recipe, in between informing her of the latest gossip. He placed a plate of fresh baked bread and some of his most excellent ham before her, eager to enjoy it she smiled and canted her head as he continued with the news. The bread was delicious as always and the ham....well...she hardly had to chew and savoured the taste with each mouthful. Although quite used to her own company of late, it was always a pleasure to visit the kitchens and just spend a while...listening, passing away an hour or so.
Mollie filled her goblet with some wine before offering a curtsy and agreeing to sit a while. Dream had such a fondness for the twins and was always more than ready to enjoy their company. Sipping her wine, she listened as the twins talked of new loves and losses, not leaving many young men in the village yet to be betrothed to. Dream tried hard not to chuckle and kept her most serious face. Absently twirling her Wedding ring around her slender finger, she found herself looking at it as Millie spoke of the new stable hand and how ruggedly handsome the poor man was.Between them the twins had relayed all there was to know, and Dream was both pleased and yet sorry still to learn both Beren and the Queen were still not well enough to enjoy the last of the Summer time. Although they were improving, the Castle was so very quiet each time she visited.
Mary had been a blessing, helping her with the children whilst they stayed at the beach, but none of them could really stay through winter, even with the two very capable Rangers always close by. It would be more practical to move back. Dream knew such would be soon, even though the thought of her cold and empty chambers did not instill much warmth in her heart.Perhaps by the time Autumn had settled upon the lands, both Beren and Edfeil would be well enough to celebrate the harvest and they could all look forward to cosy evenings by the hearth in the Hall, sewing and embroidering.......enjoying the Castle once again and all it had to offer. Dream smiled then at the image and thought for a moment that it could very well come to pass.
There would always be Guests to entertain and Winter always found more enjoying the hospitality Windstorm was so famous for. Millie and Mollie were quick to agree when they remembered how many travelers often stopped for refuge from England's awful rain and cold. Such a decision seemed almost to have been made, and yet Dream would stay at the beach for a little longer, she had checked again with the pigeon master and still there was no news of her beloved Robin. Each day that passed she had expected to hurt less.......but time may not be the great healer the wise ones speak of.
She relaxed into the hard bench and sipped her wine, exchanging news of her children with the Servants and becoming more familiar with Castle ways again.......visits here never ceased to make her smile, there always was something quite wonderful about Windstorm Castle.*
((Perhaps a way of including any who feel like joining in and catching up with news and such from the past weeks.))
