It had seemed a good idea. Mollie had gotten too old for more than a short ride and she needed a new mount. Her instinct was to find herself a new mule. After all, she and Mollie had done very well together, which was more than could be said of her attempts with any horse. Goodman Sinold bred horses. And nae just horses... ponies. Ponies were a lot smaller than regular horses. So she had spoken to him about buying one. The idea had seemed to please them both, and Sinold assured her he had chosen a good mount. Hagred he was called, and she had been convinced of his suitable personality. A feisty pony would nae do her any good, after all.
Yet there were things she had nae taken into account that mayhap she should have. Matters had come up in the realm that needed her attention over the past weeks, and she nae had been able to try out the horse.
Last night however, the time seemed right. Late in the evening with dusk already settling over the years and few people around appeared an excellent opportunity. She had consented to a lesson, and that were things had taken a wrong turn.
Sinold had seemed enthousiastic about the lesson, but his behaviour had been.. problematic. In any other court he would have been scourged to within an inch of his life for the way he had been speaking to her. And nae just to her. She had apologized of course, but it nae truely made up for the tone and the spectacle that Prince Gregor had been subjected to.
She had had to speak up. It was one thing to accept insults 'twards herself, but she cold nae allow them to guests of Windstorm. As to herself.. she had responsibilities now. 't would simply nae do to allow herself to be spoken to in such a way. Even she would soften her orders to all she had the right to command whenever she could. Iffen she allowed this behaviour to continue.. how would any respect her?
In the end, the riding lesson had nae taken place. Sinold had insisted, commanded.. that she ride the horse without a saddle. She had offered Mollie's old saddle to be adjusted but...There was nae a way she could do 't. 't would nae be proper for one, but more importantly, it was dangerous..however would she stay ON the horse?
The whole situation had been.. oversetting. In the end she had been led back to the hall by Prince Gregor, quietly and gratefully. Later that eve, she had time to reflect more on what happened, and while sliding the comb to her unpinned hair in her room she could nae help but think how good it was to have a strong yet calm presence near.
