It had started so small, really. A visit of the Lady Simone to the Glori. She had traveled with it oft, and there was naught remarkable about it. Then evening had set in, and the lady had fallen asleep aboard ship. Captain Ulbrecht had made the decision that after the turmoils of the last weeks, sleep would be a good thing and loath to disturb such had nae woken her up.
And thus.. Simone had spend the night on board of the Glori, and had been seen leaving it the next day, quite rumpled and happy. Of course there had been gossip. There always was gossip. And Edfeil herself had listened and decided a quiet word in some ears, especially Simone's would be appropriate.
But somehow, the gossip had taken a more nasty turn than the usual grinning speculation. Why apparently it was even whispered now that the reason Lady Simone's husband had followed her in a rage, and had been brutal with her, was naught other than the ladies infidelity. With Prince Ulbrecht. Luckily there were few willing to repeat or even listen to such slander. But as everywhere there were a few whose tongue was more malicious than their brain was fast. And one of those had met Simone in the village and uttered the unthinkable to her face. It had been too much for her composure and she had slapped the woman. Nae a good plan. Nae something that would help rumours die down quietly.
There had been a brawl as well. Sailors from the Glori who had heard some of the rumours from a few of the local fisherman. Though honestly, such didn't worry her as much. It was nae that rare to have a brawl on the docks. There nae had been damage to property or to ought but pride, nae counting a few black eyes and some bruises. And sailors counted too much on one another to keep a grudge over a quick word.
What she worried about was Ulbrecht getting word of it. What had or nae had happened on the Glori... was one thing. But the fact that he was accused of breaking a woman's marital vows was another. And pray God he would sail away before he heard.
