((This roleplay was a bit more raw than is common in Windstorm, but the end of a story arc that took place over several months. I am still sifting through the scripts. Due to reload I missed the beginning though.))
The attacks had begun months ago. They nae knew why, or how. Kyle was first. He'd been brought to the infirmary near death. The incident had shaken the castle, but over the months as peace seemed to return it had been relegated to the back of peoples minds with daily life and hardships as well as joys taking their turn. And Kyle.. had gone a hunting.
Then there had been Arson... a guest of Windstorm who had been attacked on the road to the castle and arrived riddled with arrows. Security had tightened. Was someone targeting the castle? Who? Why?
There nae had been armies encamped and intelligence had nae brought forth a solution, and then, in one week, three attacks seemed to happen that changed all. In the village, Ghaele Draven, Kyle's brother was shot at with an arrow. Only the plating of his armour had saved his life. In the castle Cara escaped death only by the glance of an eye and a swift reaction as someone tried to cut her throat. A scream from the kitchens had alerted Dieter who managed to disarm the man and render him unconscious, before the guards brought him down and to the dungeons.
Scant days later another attack had happened on the queen, within Windstorm's great hall. Kyle's swift reaction on his return had there cut down the culprit and the castle went.. as close to lock down as could be allowed. Hospitality was the core of Windstorm. Yet hospitality also entailed making certain those within the halls were safe. Several attempts were made to persuade the prisoner to speak and reveal what he knew, without avail.
Christmas came it, and with that Gottesfrieden. The yule ball came and with it measures to keep the whole castle safe. Near a month the prisoner named Hugh had spent in the dungeons, and despite tricks to put fear in him or offers of leniency that would see his life spared, he'd not opened up. It had been agonizing to the queen to decide on further action. She knew she'd shown any leniency possible. She knew that in other lands the man would have faced the rack already without a chance given to speak up voluntarily. She knew that it was her responsibility now to give the orders her father would have given without hesitance, but she had nae willingly placed pain or burden on another.
In the end there had nae been in a choice. She knew that with each day of agonized delay, the chance grew that one of those who cared for Windstorm took matters into their own hands, while she averted her eyes. A cowards way.
And thus the order had been given. The whip being used in disciplinary matters at sea, she had asked for Ulbrecht's assistance and begged his forgiveness in doing so. On board of the Gloriarc, a chance had been given one more to speak, to earn leniency. When it was not taken, the whip had spoken till flesh was raw and pain had overruled will. They'd found their answers: Kyle was the target, with those he cared for stepping stones in the revenge of a man bound to his past. No armies were build, but skillful men had been set on the trail.
Skillful men, with hearts full of fear and hatred if the one who was held by two sailors had been a measure. For before anything further could be asked or spoken, he'd managed in a feat of strength unexpected in one who had gone through what he just had, to pull the knife from one of those who held him and lunge for the queen. She'd been thrown to the deck by Gregor while throwing knives from Ulbrecht and Mr. Ogden ended the life of the man before he could finish the attempt.

The very next day the Queen, after a night spend in the chapel, the queen had sailed off to Caernarfon. There had been joy in Windstorm at the welcoming of Brother Oswin as the new member of the family, and it had done her good. A balm perhaps on an open wound. Yet her mind kept whirling back to the Gloriarc, and to what had been done. What she had ordered to be done. She nae seemed to be able to speak of such, fearing to show weakness, to sound as if she passed judgment on those who had done what she asked, or to see the horror in the eyes who had come to count on the peace of Windstorm.
Finally the Master Sergeant had convinced her a swift visit to Caernarfon was the best solution. She'd hesitated. Caera was strong. Had led armies. She loved her friend dearly, but she seemed to wear the mantle of reign so easily. But then her mind had grasped upon another name. Kendrick. Kendrick who had been lifted up to the position of crown prince of Caernarfon. Kendrick who had for the first time commanded armies when Emaine went down. She had visited then too. She had seen the change within his eyes, and worried about him.
So... she had let the Master Sergeant bundle her off on the Pretty Boat, but had protested when he would try to send her with half a contingent of guards. Certainly they could do better work at Windstorm. She was travelling to Caernarfon. The Pretty Boat would dock at the Eagle Tower itself. The journey was as safe as a sea journey could be. In the end, he had accepted such, though Sergeant Lan of course had gone with her.
And he had nae strayed from her side till she'd been in the Queen's private study. Yet Caera had nae been alone.

I would have hoped he had taken the sacraments.. *she had hoped even more that the appearance of the priest might have induced him to talk, nae necessiting the questioning further. But he had nae.* I did what.. needed to be done. *she smiled once more, though there was nae any joy in it.* Me father would have given the order on the spot.. the night of the attack.. *Agustin might have meted out the punishment himself if it came to that, she realized. Only yer question brought her back from the image of what her father would have done.* Aye.. one of the men that held him.. *she shook her head this time* I would nae have believed any one could have even.. stood after this.
