It was a bit bewildering, the story that was going through the kitchens, and for once, Millie and Mollie were even heard saying that it was nobodies business and that people should be better minding their work than gossiping about the queen. It was a rare day when even the twins refused to bite on a bit of innocent gossip. The rumor was delicious though, and even when only half believed it was fun to speculate.
Had it not been seen by one of the page boys themselves when he came to refresh the sideboard? Hawkmoon, the dark, scarred former Captain who had returned holding the queen's hand and kissing it? They looked real sweet the boy had said. Why nae even her betrothed was granted such freedoms now was he? And if he was nobody ever had seen it. It was a delicious bit of speculation. Not that any meant any harm. After all they all loved the queen, and they all knew she was a right proper woman. And now that she was good and well betrothed there certainly wouldn't be anything untowards happening, of course. But it was still interesting, wasn't it?
