She had thought the turmoil would have been over after Dorian and Dieter had returned from their.. hunt. She needed to speak to them, of course. Why had she been led to believe that Dieter would be on the walls, when he too had ridden out. When between him and Dorian, the men they had hunted had been caught between hammer and anvil? Why.. had she nae known?
Still, even though she had known they would need to speak about such secrecy, she had been.. relieved. It was over. She asked Dieter to walk with her. A quiet conversation about.. trust.. and need.
And then.. amidst the quiet of the dark, the horn had sounded. Alarm, within Windstorm. Confusion had warred with fear and worry as she rushed back, Dieter at her side. But nae alone. Out of the dark two more had doomed: Othello, Dieter's horse commanded to his side by a whistle, and Sir Ravenmaster. The short journey back to the castle had seen her surrounded by men and armour. And then.. once there.. she would find the Master Sergeant with his explanation. Lady Adel Blakeland, a recent guest of Windstorm had been found in the Great Hall to be hiding a sword beneath her skirt, and daggers in her sleeves. Dorian had called her 'pon the deceit, yet instead of explaining, she had denied it, trying to make him sound like a fool or a lecher for even suggesting it. He had drawn steal then, and his voice and demeanour had been more than enough to strike fear in the heart of Mae, their other guest who had lived through enough terror for one lifetime already in her bare 19 years.
Lady Adel however had seemed to remain defiant, though at least she had nae been foolish enough to challenge Dorian when he threatened to strip her bare iffen she would nae give up the hidden arms. He had challenged her formally then, when the sword and daggers appeared, of bringing weapons, concealed and undeclared into the Great Hall and asked for her to be confined to her rooms under guard till the queen would judge her actions.
He had left the hall already by the time she returned to the hall, Lord Ravenmaster protectively at her side, but she could nae find.. fault in his actions. Nae after the assassination attacks within this hall over the last months. Still.. she spoke kindly to the lady, and tried with all she could to reassure Mae. Assuring both of them of hearing the lady out fairly on the morn, she had asked for them to retire. It should have been the end. It should have.
