*glups down a tankard of me rum...followed by a second and half of a third.... Bloody 'ell... I hate talking to this stubborn pig 'eaded french twit. Ah well..might as well get it over with * as I pick up me quill and set to writing a missive...
Captain Remard
To keep tempers in check and things general getting out of hand , I have opted to send this missive instead of coming calling. I trust the supplies reached thee and are holding out. Iffn there be anything thee require, just give a list to the lad whom delivers this to thee. I am also agreeing the let thee visit Derak and see that his care and health are well. I shall let thee know what day thee can, once I hear word in return from thee.
King Agustin Stormblade
Slowly I roll the parchment up into a small tube.. and seal it with a glob of wax pressed firmly with me personal seal. As I hand it to the guard whom volunteered to deliver this missive to…. What was it they called the French sailors….. TADPOLES..that’s it…. Softly I chuckle… here ye go William… give this to those tadpoles and await a reply from the head bull frong…* bursts out laughing along with the guards in me study*..
Enough!!.. I finally bellow softly… we do nae wish to offend anyone with our foolish ways now do we lads…* grins*.. Now.. off with ya.. and lets get this over with. * Slowly I look back to me desk….

What did this king want? Why so reconciliatory all of a sudden? Remard paced his cabin while Valmére, who had read the missive to him and had placed himself as a buffer between his captain and the messenger - a practice the captain had picked up from his uncle Vinzelles - still held the letter in his hand, watching his captain. With a nod towards the messenger, Remard told Valmére to bring the messenger from Agustin outside to wait there, and then come back. When his second in command returned, Remard was still pacing.
"I don't trust this … king. Nobody who calls barbarians his friends can be trusted. He is looking to lull us into a false sense of security… if Eurich has made his way to Paris, that Augustin has no idea what is coming his way. But I take up his offer to see Darek. God knows how they have treated him. Give me a minute and then you'll bring my response to this messenger."
Remard sat down at his table, took out quill and pen and began to write.
Milord Augustin
Your missive was well received, and I thank you for it. We have received the supplies you have promised. I have enclosed a short list with a few additional items you may find not hard to provide us with.
I thank you for your offer to let me see my man. I want to take that opportunity as soon as possible. His imprisonment has gone on a long time now, and not being with one's own kin surely must be wearing on any man. I request, however, that I may be allowed to see Darek together with a man of my crew, my second in command. He is much better versed in your tongue and will help in our communication.
I would also request that my men be allowed to help with the work on the docks, under the supervision of your guards of course. Being idle is a poison I would hate to see my men succumb to.
I shall await the time and day when I may be allowed to see Darek.
Remard de Sennis Captain of the Forell
Rolling the paper up with a grim face, Remard gave the missive to the messenger who was then led off board to bring the Captain's response to king Agustin.
