It had been Gerrad who came to her last time.....with the news of Robin's health. His memory lost due to poisoning, he may not recall her, Gerrad had warned. May not remember he had said, oh so long ago now. And this time, still it was Gerrad who went to seek out Dorian and give him the arrow head, why......why not a note, or a visit....something more.....anything.
There had to be a reason......
Dorian had conveyed to her every detail of the meeting with both Gerrad and then subsequently Robin, but still there had been no personal message, no real clue as to where he had been and why......and still to this day, nothing more. The Hawk had given her more hope than she had in a long while, he was certain all would be as it should and that Robin would come home with his men. He could not say for sure, but there seemed no memory loss, no frail health......it was as if no time had passed and they had spoken like the friends they had always been.
Yet what was the reason......
She sighed softly as she climbed into her bed......empty and cold, even though it was Summer time, the evenings and night times were more as if Winter had taken hold again. She shivered, perhaps from both the cold and her loneliness. Her eyes watched as the flame burned in the window, a single candle always alight, simply to show the way. It was more out of habit lately, that she lit one from another, more than the belief that one day he would search it out and come home.
She closed her eyes........wishing sleep would come quickly, yet she knew her mind was far too full of mundane things to allow her complete rest. Her thoughts were with Edfeil now, as she too knew the pain and worry of not knowing......her own betrothed had gone away, and there was no word. It was a horrid place to find oneself in.......with only hope to comfort, memories to placate......fears to blind one from the truth, whatever such was.
Hope was fading.......perhaps even dying......and there is no worse death than the death of hope.
