HA! You hid here LAST time, you shouldn’t have done so twice in a row . . you KNOW I’d find you . . *she teased, for often the best plan was to do the unexpected and do just what she’d done. But Celia had arranged the folds of the heavy tapestry just so in case Mollie had decided to try to hide there again, and it had paid off nicely! They both collapsed in giggles.
Finding themselves with a few free hours between their chores, the impulsive game had sprung to life. All just a wee bit too old for such nonsense, they indulged in it often nonetheless, it always produced such breathless merriment. “I only hope Millie will keep to her honor and stay out of the servery! Cook will poke a ripe apple in her mouth, tuck parsley about her and serve her for the evening meal iffen she does not! *They both burst into laughter at the memory of their last time of trying to hide in the delicious smells of the kitchens, and the mounds of dishes they’d had to scrub after upsetting a huge bag of oatmeal in the storeroom . .
“Well” Celia flashed her hand suddenly to tap Mollie on the shoulder, and turned to run . . “You’re IT now! Count to 100 . . and SLOWLY this time, ye silly!!”
Not waiting to hear if she kept to her command, Celia dashed up the stairs, and though she be as lithe as a young gazelle, she found herself panting a bit when she rounded the corner, her mind searching furiously for the perfect spot to hide . . Looking back over her shoulder at the sound of Mollie starting up the stairs already, though far below, she muttered to herself “One, two , skip a few, 99 , 100, I’ll wager, the little cheat! No one could count THAT fast . . “
She turned JUST as she collided with a silent figure in her pathway, his strong hands gripping her upper arms, though a highly amused look graced his features. Certain her heart had stopped it’s beating, she immediately smiled into the tanned face, recognizing him instantly as one who would not drag her to the nearest window and toss her into the moat below. As the footfalls below her grew closer, she quickly pled “Norse, do not tell her ye saw me, I beg of ye!” And with that, she wriggled free and zipped into the nearest door, heedless of what was behind it . .

He was surprised, dismayed even when that little girl bumped into him in the hallways. Who was she now? So far Sinold had only met Elissia, or whatever her name was, and he rarely bumped into that little one since she was kept under tight guards by her mother Lady Loxley.
Then there was a bair Dalan, brought by the servant whose name eluded him.
But this one he had not seen before. She was nice, nonetheless, and so he smiled down on her, nodding his consent.
“Alright, I won’t tell where you’re hiding, but brave warriors don’t hide ya know? They face their enemy and fi-…
Before he could finish his explanation, the little girl was gone, hiding somewhere, and Sinold peeked down the hallway to see who it would be trying to find her.

*She lifted her hands to cover her eyes....only she parted her fingers slightly and peeked through. Nodding her acceptance, she mulled over the numbers in her mind a moment and then began speaking in a whisper....tapping her foot each time she counted.*
"Wun...two...free.....four.....five......"
*She reached thirteen and jumped to twenty three.....all the while imagining where Celia would be hiding. Her footsteps had been upon the stairs....so she knew it was somewhere on the upper levels.*
"Twenty five an' twenty six...firty.....and.....ermm there must be more ... come on mollie member yers teachin's aint one 'undered afore yers gits ta aighty."
*She flustered and chewed her lip.....nodding to herself that it must be time enough and she took a deep breath as her hands left her eyes.*
"Ahhhhs comin'.....be ye ready or nae."
"Her skirts were lifted higher than her ankles and she almost tripped up the first step in her haste.....with a few puffs and pants..she reached the first floor. Eyes dancing about.....seeking any movement.....she took hold of the drapes and swished them quickly.....her face beaming as she expected to find celia.
Not there.......she moved along each window in turn....the drapes flailing about as she pulled them from their quiet stance. She frowned now and hastened to the chest that sat upon the landing.
"Hmmmmm ahs got yers now celia."
*She took the handle and lifted the lid high with all her might... it was heavier than she thought.......her face contorted in suprise.....not here either......well then......she looked at the doors....nae....she would nae.
It was then she saw the golden haired man and blushed... her curtsy was clumsy and she stammered slightly.*
"As yers seen 'er MiLud.......Celia?"

Sinold raised an eyebrow.
"Seen whom? Celia? Who is that?"
He reckoned that Celia was the name of the little girl he had just encountered, and now vigorously shook his head. "Nobody came this way in aaaages! .... Oh... wait, I think I saw someone moving down theeeeeere!"
He now pointed down the hallway where he knew Celia had been running along behind him, expecting Mollie to take his help as a ruse and turn the other way instead.
"If ye be quick ye might catch whoever it is ye might be trying to catch!"

*She scratched at her head beneath thick brown hair....he was sneaky this one....she did not believe his words. Her eyes darted here and there... all the doors were closed, and she should not to enter any lest she was cleaning. He might tell on her....this one......she did not trust him at all.
She puffed and panted.....as he spoke.....still undecided for a moment.*
"Oh........aye......'tis her..... it must be....ah thankye MiLud"
*She then curstied and waited for him to move along to wherever he was going.....her hands deftly rearranging the drapes she had interfered with....waiting until he was out of sight before making her next move.*

Sinold nodded and headed the way he knew Celia had disappeared in. Although he didn't know where exactly she had disappeared to, he was pretty certain it was into one of the rooms.
"Quite right, Mollie. What are you doing chasing after someone here in the first place? "
Sinold waited for her to answer.

Sinod turned his head towards the Lord who seemed to have come out of nowhere. He never really had talked, or even seen this man before... he looked dofferent from any of the otehr Lords, Sinold couldn't quite place his finger on it.
But... he seemed to have a sense of humor and bwoing slightly, Sinold smiled when he answered the man's question.
"Oh no, neither is chasing either... I've just been thrown into the middle of some... game. Between the womenfolk.. uhm, and I really don't know anything!
He shrugged, his hands held high as if defending against some unseen enemy, looking at Mollie and himself looking as innocent as he could.

*She stood with her back against the door, her panting stilled now, angry with herself for trapping herself in the room, no options for movement until they all left . . Well, the Norseman had TRIED to encourage Millie to seek her elsewhere . .
Pressing her ear to the door, she balled her little fists in frustration, hearing yet ANOTHER voice outside! She'd be here forever, if a crowd kept gathering . . slumping down to the floor to sit it out, she landed a bit harder than she expected, and stopped breathing . . eyes scrunched shut, she hoped dearly their voices had masked her lapse in sneakery . .

*Before she could answer the blond man....another appeared.....she felt her mouth begin to speak and yet the words seemed to be lost amid her deep breathing. What to say... how to get out of this situation. As if she would ever chase after this one.....she could only shake her head as her cheeks grew bright red. Embarassment and anger finally gave way and she lifted her skirts and grunted an apology with her head bowed.
She fled along the passageway and did not know which way to look....she would have to find celia later....once she had calmed down. Leaving the men together..she took the back stairs down to the kitchens and the safety of her own world.*

Her ear pressed tightly to the door, she barely heard the soft apology that came from Mollie, immediately angered that the men had frightened the poor maid thus. Scrambling to her feet, she burst through the doorway like a little banty chicken, hands on her hips indignantly, hissing at them as if they were her little brothers that had been torturing some poor creature. . . .
What d'ye mean by teasin' poor Mollie like that! Ye big brutes! Ye didn't hae to . . .
Then, with horror, she realized what she was doing, who she was speaking to . . clamping both her hands over her impudent mouth, eyes round as moons, she fled past them and down the stairs . . .
If . . no WHEN her mother found out, she would surely tan her sitter scarlet with a willow branch, no doubt about it! She would be good . . oh yes, she would be a good one, hold her tongue when she should, work hard, harder than ever . . and hope against hope mother would not hear of it . .
Yet, it wasn't but three days later she found herself again winking at the twins as they finished the dreadful task of peeling a mountain of potatoes for the evening meal and were released from their labors for a few precious moments . . "Perhaps if we keep to the outdoors, we'll stay out of trouble . . who wishes to be IT this time?
Millie, ye disappeared on us last time 'round *Celia's hands once again found themselves resting upon what little hips she had* . . YOU come find US, fair enough? Jes . . keep away from the Lords . . and best the Ladies as well . .

*Millie groaned loudly...she was never good at seeking...mind... she was not so good at hiding either. When last she played, her hips had stuck out further that the curtain she hid behind thus giving her away, but she nodded and accepted Celia's words.
Mollie chuckled and took Celia by the hand...placing one finger to her own lips by way of telling her to hush. They waited until Millie faced the wall and covered her eyes and then tip toed out into the courtyard.
Cook bellowed out after them....although it was his attempt at aiding...both girls cringed as he spoke.*
"Ye both be stayin' away from the woods now!!"
*Mollie shook her head and mumbled about cook already giving the game away...leading Celia towards the chicken shed.*
"Millie dun likes tha chickens....she won't be lookin' fer us there."
*Chuckling quietly....both girls slipped across the courtyard.*

Truth be told, Celia didn't care much for those chickens either . . something about them, the smell or . . something, she never thought much about the why of it . . But she swallowed her dislike and followed along bravely . . "We best hurry, iffen Millie skips her numbers likes as to yers countin' . . " She laughed as she teased Mollie . .
But just as they arrived at the doorway to enter, Celia slightly ahead of the twin by now, a huge rooster flew out the door, squawking and a spewing pinfeathers ever' which way . . Celia skidded to a halt, nearly smashin' into poor Mollie! "IIIII'm not goin' in there . . no way . . nope! . . Let's go around back and hide in the bushes!"
Ooohh . . here she comes . . I can hear her yellin' . . HURRY . . afor she sees us!

*Mollie laughed then... a deep belly laugh, keeping hold of Celia's hand as they ran*
"Ah dint skip tha countins ah jist dun be knowin' all tha numbers"
*She grinned and was suprised herself as the Rooster flew about in gay abandonment......hearing Celia protest...she steered her away and around the back of the shed.*
"Quick then...in 'ere."
*Almost shoving her friend...she pushed her into the space between the shrubbery and the back of the chicken shed......not even thinking of any creepy crawlies that may be lurking there. Panting slightly she squeezed in beside Celia and grinned wide at her.*
"She won't come 'ere......jist yers wait an' see."
