*her clothing was heavy set and yet she had a wistful look of pleasure as she made her way toward the stables. Gloves donned her slender hands and she seemed decked out for a day of horseriding. Earlier when all was barely stirring;Sadhbh and the one she began to fondly call her shadow made for the meadows on foot and gathered only the most tender leaves from the nettles that grew in a patch there. A tonic was made and Edwin was nae pleased to have sampled this concoction. Amid it all Sadhbh had found it a pleasant morning. She had attended church as was her habit and then prepared to ride. The dress she wore was plain and meant for such efforts as this. Sadhbh took out the horse the stable man gave her and spent a while getting to know this old friend. She whispered softly in the mares ear and patted her neck ever so softly. I time she mounted her and then set out for the evening air. Not far behind trotted Edwins faithful gelding as ever the guard kept a close eye over his charged Lady.
It was oft said that the air was freer outside a castle and this day; Sadhbh thought it true. Being so under the eye of scrutiny was something she had not experianced all that much yet she knew that this was the mantle of a Lady and a part of her adult life. She often wondered what it would be like to marry as Marianne had done, to wed and bear a child whom she could love with all her might. Mariannes blossoming condition had caused her to ponder on such a thing and wonder all the more at how Lord Beaufort was treated so harshly. She still could not think that Righarde could do such a thing!. It shocked her then, it shocked her still. Noone would speak to of her. She had to make up a sketchy tappestry of word slips and bodily actions to cast her thought. Whatever happened it was bad, and it involved a man who she was matched to marry. Resolutely they told her that now this was not the case yet Sadhbh still asked after the gentleman. She still wondered. No hope lay in her wonder, just a certain uncertainty as to what happened. Indeed, she found that in Windstorm, the face of Lord Beaufort was becoming less and less clear in her mind. She had seen how gentlemen acted here and those even below a Knights rank. Such careful words they spoke, such gentle composure and yet manly strength. All this among others made Sadhbh wake up to the reality of things. A girl she had been, kept protected from all in Kent and now she was becoming that which her Mother wished her to be. She began to realise also that her beloved Father; of whom she was the apple of his eye; had kept her close and safe yet not safe enough from the stranger who had come to Kent for aid. As their horses bore them along, Sadhbh aired her thoughts to none but the Lord Himself.
Lord Beaufort was a man who spoke differently to her than she had seen other men till then do. He would pick her out at the tender young age of twelve and pay special attention to her. Sadhbh naturally found this flattering and quite overwhelming. He was her friend, a goodly gentleman who would drink ale and laugh with the men of the Castle yet cast a special eye on a girl who knew naught why he looked her way. Now turned she to the eve of discontent, Lord Beaufort asked the King, her brother for her hand in marriage. Sadhbh was surprised and excited at the time yet it was quickly quashed by the way King Righarde stormed at Beau. Never had she seen any so ill treated. Tossed out Beau was with Righardes own strong arms. Beau was given a horse and banished from the land. He was escorted toward the border but not before proclaiming that he would be back and Sadhbh would be his. Such clouds ran over her brothers face. Such turbulent storms captured his eyes. Sadhbh lowered her eyes and shook her head, t'was past. She would know of the trouble in time yet the importance of it had begun well to fade in her mind. What worried her now was her brothers and the troubles in Kent.
she decided to cast the shadows of worry from her; for a while at least; and with the urging on of her horse she soon began to pick up a pace quite swift along by the cliffs they found themselves on* Be careful m'Lady! *came the shout as Edein tried to keep pace. A laugh was heard from Sadhbh as she looked back* Oh come Edwin, allow me this one moment of freedom *Edwin did not speak, he knew that there was no point of arguing with her...
She thought of Nicholas who had taken time to speak with her, to keep her company and listen to her words. He was one whom she knew she would never forget. His nobleness in spirit was something she would hold dear to her for some time to come.
It was then that all thoughts fled from her mind and she simply enjoyed her time outside*
