Lock up your sons!...lol I know most of you either live in, or have been to, England and such and I was wondering if anyone has some advice to give. I am planning a trip out there next July, hopefully for 3 weeks. I would really like to see London, interesting places around England. Other than that I am pretty open. I am hoping to see a bit of Southern France as well, basically go where the wind takes me. I will be on a budget, so advice on cheap places to stay, eat, and other travelling advice would be great and I would appreciate it HUGELY! Thank you! ps - travelling companions most welcome to join up!

Ahh dear ole London town, pitty someone put the fire out ;D even the rats left , no no sorry I should really promote my Capital city, now then the good points : 1, The M1 motorway North, The A1 motorway North. 2, It has a big river 3, Some old buildings here and there. 4, Parliament (if it had have been up t'north Guy Forkes would have succeeded) well that was short and sweet hope I have sold it well... Right now for some local terminology for ya (da lingo) Apple an pears = Stairs Plates of meat =Feet Cor blimey guvner = £5.50 for a sandwich!! Trouble an Strife = Wife Not on yer nelly = No its definately £5.50 I can't imagine why I never took up a career in tourism, I hope this outlook gives you some insight into O/our beautiful Capital City, I went there once or was it twice oh well never mind, another bit of advice if you get lost ask the good old English Bobby, they are the ones carrying the semi automatic weapons, no not the ones in the hoodies the ones in the nice dark blue pressed uniforms and body armor, mmmm on second thoughts ask the hoodies. This is a light hearted look into some typical english things, Brenn I am sure you will enjoy your stay here with us, if there is anything I can help you with you know where I am, yes you guessed it in the North..LMAO & Rep

Have to laugh Repsol........ you are just too funny! Well............ we have the biggest car park in the whole of UK...... the notorious M25 and London isn't THAT bad..........well.......... if you like Towns of course *L* Being a country girl myself.....tally ho and all that. Mind you, the South East is the most highly populated, but obviously the most beautiful I am only 1 hour by train from London........ South of course Seriously though......it depends on what you would really like to get out of your trip. Historically London has everything, The Tower of London is a must and if you visit the London Eye you can see for miles of a clear day. Boat trip along the river Thames........ Buckingham Palace, Houses of Parliament......Big Ben........and ...and *L* you will need more than a day for sure. Truly........I do hope we can spend some time together, that would be just super! Perhaps I can show you a little of the countryside....and Hever Castle? It would be an honour........ although we have no spare beds, there are always little Bed and Breakfast/Guest Houses close by........or very expensive Hotels too if you are pushing the boat out. I have to agree with Repsol about prices......... I fear London is very hard on the old pocket, but well worth it if you enjoy that kind of thing. I adore Brighton, but then I love the sea *S* Keep in touch......perhaps we can help you further, or even arrange a little gathering of us over here! As the UK is so very tiny!

Repso - I heard about the 12 dollar sandwiches and the old buildings, but not to fear. I will pack meal replacement bars and schedule an afternoon to visit those "old buildings"....lol
Dreamy I would love to see you! I am hoping to see as many of you faceless people as I can, though you sure are all over the place...lol. and South is cool it could be on my way to France. And another internet friend is in north east England so I should be getting around...lol...which is cool.
As for what I wanna see, well I am big into history, the weirder the better. Upmost is seeing where Anne Boleyn lies, I have always been fascinated with her. I LOVE haunted stuff, ghosts and the like which you have in droves over there so I'll be in my glory. I might be able to do without Brighton, I live right by the sea here -looks out my window-
I love all the tings like Jack the Ripper/White Chappel, Bath cuz they always talk about Bath in the historical romance novels...
I know London is expensive, so I will have to plan that leg well. There are tons of hostels and such, so I should be okay.
Now if I can just find out where Clive Owen lives I'll be set! oops, did I say that out loud?...hehe

Its a date then! I believe Anne Boleyn was buried in the Tower of London.........and I know she spent many a year at Hever Castle.......so you may get to see both. Thinking how lovely it would be to have a gathering of folks over here sometime, like they do in USA....... never say never hmmm www.hever-castle.co.uk/default.aspwww.aboutbritain.com/TowerOfLondon.htm

another question...
I HAD been contemplating July for my trip, but someone told me it's horribly busy there at that time. But how is the weather in September? Is it that bad?

Ahhhhh yes, the dreaded School Holidays...... they normally start mid July and finish early September, although London is busy most of the year as Tourist's come at all times.
We often experience early Summer 'down south' with May and June being nice.....September has often been the jewel in the crown regarding weather, this year rather exceptional, so you may be lucky. I was married in September and it was a lovely week then too...... mind you, having said that, with England.........you pays yer money and takes yer chances!
Good luck with the plans........do let me know what help I could be *S* xxx

Thanks Dream. You and the others have been a big help already. I will post questions as they come up so be prepared!...lol... So now I am thinking perhaps September is the best, possibly June, but leaning towards September, that way I can have an extra grand to spend. And I forgot, Stonehenge! I wanna see it, dance naked around it in the full moon light and all that. Apparently though I need to take out a guard now or something? They got it roped off...what the hay?

at Repsol with a chuckle........ Bren I think September will be a wise choice, and I sincerely hope the English weather will take kindly upon you. Stonehenge is an incredible place to visit, although yes these days there are ropes to cordon off the stones and it is very touristy now, but still very well worth the effort of going there. I have been very lucky and twice, many years ago was able to sit upon the stones and do the touchy feely thing *L* it is definitely a very spiritual place, and I have been left in awe of just being there. The only times you can truly wander around are Summer Solstice in June when they open it all up for free. I have promised myself a visit then......one year *nods lots*. I hope you get to see it, and you may be suprised at how much smaller it may seem in reality *S*
