He had left with a heavy heart, for he hated to leave behind a woman that he cared for and who was ill. But Nicholas had to trust that Sadhbh's brother knew what was best for her. besides, if he'd linger around that delicate and witty creature any longer, Nicholas feared to fall completely and irrevocably for her charms. Judging from her brother's reaction towards his attentions towards the Kent woman, he also knew, however, that his interest was viewed disfavourably. Aah, it would be better to leave before things got out of hand and him into deep trouble.
Yet, he wished he would have something more personal from her to keep during his journey...Bah, idle thought of a love struck fool.
As he was instructed Nicholas met with another ranger in the village of Sommerville. there they discussed the latest happenings and the threat to Windstorm coming from the Frankish realm. It was there that Nicholas took out the small bags tied with herbs by lady Sadhbh and found one bag in particular which he quickly hid inside his own shirt. Half of the other bags he gave to his comrade and together they then mounted up to meet with the rest of the men in the meeting place deep in the woods.
On his ride there Nicholas took out that one particular bag once again and looked at it closer. It was not simple linen but a handkerchief, embroidered with a dove nestled within a stylized letter K. Holding the bag against his nose, Nicholas smelled the slightest hint of perfume....
He smiled while riding, and was one of the happiest men alive at that moment.
