Well, after nearly fainting at getting a call from the Queen, who sounded, not surprisingly, quite a mix of jubilation and exhaustion, but wanting to make sure everyone here got word from her directly! . . She mentioned 30 hours of labor, and the need for forceps, (and no wonder . . it seems the wee bairn was determined to get a really good headstart on life before his grand and artfully delayed entrance, weighing in over 8 pounds! *poor little Eva!*) but absolutely enchanted with her prize!
*just . . radiates joy for the whole family*

Indeed! Joseph William was born in the wee hours of this morning at 5:18. I'll write more tomorrow morning, because I'm just REALLY tired (I haven't had proper sleep in about 48 very busy hours now) but I just wanted to thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. They really are appreciated! Eva is doing fine, but is utterly exhausted after being in chemically-enhanced labor for the better part of 18 hours. In the end, she had a fairly unnatural birth (though no caesarean, thank God!) but I think that she made all of the right decisions given the circumstances and was incredibly brave through it all. Little Joseph is a hungry guy who needed virtually no training in breastfeeding and has a nice way of looking around the room curiously at everything. Unfortunately, Eva still has the camera at the hospital, so no pictures tonight. We'll share, of course, once everyone is back at home. And Joseph was 8 lbs, 3 oz and 19.5 inches (which is 3117 grams and 49 cm, I think, for you metrically inclined people) .

Just checking in for one moment before getting a bit of sleep. They keep waking you every five minutes at the hospital: food, bloodpressure, nurse, doctor, baby... all on a different schedule, so I still have not had more than three hours uninterrupted sleep since giving birth...
As you may have figured, labour was not that easy, in the end they had to help him out with forceps. I won't go into more details, but... ouch. Then and now. Ouch. He is an utterly, utterly cute baby, VERY big (I think it's more like 3700 grams metric). He loves to eat for an hour, is very inquisitive, and according to the nurse is one of the strongest babies she has cared for. (they needed two nurses to keep him down for a shot aparently...) He is slightly jaundiced, but luckily not enough to keep him there. I will check in as often as I can, but I can't make much of a promise for this first week. Thank you so much all for your wishes and prayers. I'm not going to pretend it wasn't hard... but I am SO happy with my beautiful little boy. I hope to post pictures tonight.
