Summer is a thing of the past now...but then I Love winter
...so just wanted to share my thoughts with you...
Gone are the days of being awaken by bird song
frost has replaced dew
a foggy mist looms
the days shorter, the nights now long
Gone are the days of an early morning sunrise
the moon still high in the sky
stars seem close enough to touch
clear signs of another summers demise
Gone are the days of flowers scenting the air
smoke now bellows from chimneys
snow begins to fall
venturing out without a coat, only if you dare
Gone are the days of jumping in the pool
ice skates replace roller blades
sandals exchanged for snowshoes
cotton or silk pajamas relinquished for flannel or wool
Gone are the days of lemonade stands and baseball
spiced tea and hot chocolate now brew
football on the ‘frozen tundra’
winter, spring, summer, the season circle completed with the arrival of fall
Gone are the days of summer camps and picnics
snowball fights and sledding now the craze
Halloween and Thanksgiving just a memory
the little ones anticipating the arrival of St. Nick.
Gone are the days of summer fun, carefree and wild
holly, ivy, and mistletoe make their appearance
baking and shopping top our ‘to do’ lists
we now await Christmas, the celebration of the birth of our Lord Jesus, the Christ child
God Bless
