I just finished "a return to modesty" by Wendy Shalitt and am now reading "Simply Social Graces" both interesting books, though there are some inaccuracies in both theories. Still, they make you think, and that is always a plus.

I almost hate to admit: "Dragon Tears" by Dean Koontz. Just because something's been on the Bestseller list . . *chuckles, advising against reading it* Not quite what I thought it would be, but it HAS been a good escape . . and he has his moments of pretty word phrasings . .

Too late for Rowling spoilers for Edie, probably! ;D
I just finished "Jean de Florette" and "Manon des sources" ..in French, yesyes *L* ...utterly beautiful, sad and touching"!
My evening read (just before bed) is "Blue shoes and happiness", the 6th volume of a series about a Lady Detective in Botswana.
Also trying to read "The God Delusion"... certainly interesting, so far, but the author's aim will be lost on me : I'll stay a Christian *gentle grin*

I have just finished several in a series by Karin Slaughter.......a tad gory and definitely not for the faint hearted. Strange how I enjoy that kind of book Waiting in the wings is The Woods by Harlan Coban and hoped for from Father Christmas are the latest Patricia Cornwell and Karin Slaughter to keep me occupied!

I just finished a troubling book written by a former teacher in my kid's high school, "Sudden Death Overtime" (by Dennis Corneyea). He chronicles his fall from being named Teacher of the Year and coach of the girl's basketball team that won the State Championships . . to finding himself faced with charges of sexual misconduct that led to a prison sentence. It was so weird to read something where I knew nearly every single person within, named or implied. I had always just assumed he was guilty, judging by all the rumors that were rampant 10 years ago when it happened, the creepy feeling I got when watching him interact with the girls on the team during games, and my own kid's comments about him in class . . but the book set him forth as either a very elaborately delusional man, or he really was innocent. If he was, then what he went through was absolutely heartbreaking. Either way, the book will haunt me for a while.

Very thought provoking Letha......and troubling I can understand. If the man was indeed a victim of circumstance then he obviously went to hell and back. We simply never know the real truth in so many of these 'incidents' do we......some people are innocent and yet some hide their guilt so very well. I am reminded of the killer eventually charged with the murder of two innocents, he even had the police fooled all the while he was caretaking at the school. Nasty peice of work.......very nasty.
The most troubling book I ever read was about a young lad killed in the Hillsborough disaster, some years back. I rarely read true stories, but this one was so sad......he had ventured to watch the football game and got caught up in the evnts that followed.....horrid, tragic circumstances that left his family helpless......he just didn't come home again...... very thought provoking......and tearful too.
"When You Walk Through a Storm"
I am currently beginning yet another by Harlam Coban......exciting stuff in the first chapter. "Hold Tight."

I too am one who has trouble reading about stories that happened in reality. I have heard that Hotel Rwanda is so good, but I am certain it will give me nightmares for days. Speaking of nightmares, I had one last night. A very weird one, which involved me being in a hotel, under some official protection program, because I was about to fight as a champion for some king. In the hotel there was a bridal convention or something of the sort... oh, and I was chased by orcs when I had to leave the movie theater because I did not have a pink ticket... I am just reading: "Simple Social Graces" by Linda Lichter. I am actually re reading it. It's a wonderful non fiction book about the intricate workings of Victorian Society.

I thought there was a movie thread a while back as well, but I can't seem to locate it if there was. Just saw "Pan's Labyrinth" this week, and I really really liked it, although there were times I had to bury my head under a blanket!
