I always love to hear what sorts of books folks are enjoying . . you never know when their suggestions might be exactly what might capture your fancy as well! I'm just finishing up "White Oleander" by Janet Fitch . . before that an old classic "A Tree Grows in Brooklyn" by Betty Smith . . and also chipping away at a very unique compilation of writing from women who have spent their lives living on the High Plains of the American West . . "Leaning Into the Wind" by Linda Hasselstrom, Gaydell Collier & Nancy Curtis

I have just finished Karin Slaughter's 'Faithless', before than 'Indelible' and am about to begin the new one by Harlam Coban 'The Woods' both excellent crime writers. By the way....... there is a film out in the cinemas now called 'Tell No one' I think the first Harlam Coban book I read. I am looking forward to seeing how the film makers created it, the story was excellent.

Ah, you are really into the crime, aren't you, Dream? *grins* As a bookseller I know think in terms of prices and categories when I hear a title! It's really crazy... At the moment I am reading Philip Pullman's HIs Dark Materials trilogy. The first of the books will appear as a movie under the title The Golden Compass...It is a children's book, but the material is really serious and, certainly in the first book, absolutely horrifying. However, it is a very good read! When I travelled to Belgium, lately, I took something lighter with me , which is also very good...a book you read with a smile : 'Nr 1 Ladie's Detective Agency' by Alexander McCall Smith. It relates the everyday happenings in the life of Botswana's only female private eye. There are by now 6 books in the series, and I already look forward to read those! So, if you don't know what to read, here's something!

I've been going on a Kathleen E Woodiwiss splurge, lots of romance. It's summer, and I am having a lot of free time- along with a cold, lately - means that I have been rereading a lot of good books.
Lady B, I loved the Dark Materials trilogy. Very serious, and very horrorific in some parts. I read the first one of Alexander McCall Smith, and I have to say that I really liked that one too. It's got a very lighthearted feel, and yet a reasoning that kinda reminds me of Miss Marple.

Oh my....such a diverse range. I've recently gotten hooked onto Iris Johansen books. Oh I love her books. She used to write historical romance books, but I prefer her newer ones which deal with a touch of romance and suspense/thriller/mystery type.

I am currently reading The Oak Apple, by Cynthia Harrod Eagles. It's the fourth book in a series that follows the Moreland family throughout history, from the rise of Henry Tudor, I think till current day. We are now at Charles I's reign and the rise of Cromwell. VERY interesting and fun to read.

A couple summer back local library had an adult summer reading contest for Mystery novels...when the librarian found out I was taking out alot of Sherlock Holmes version of mysteries she got me hooked on Ralph McInerny...he writes more mysterious dealing with Father doweling mysteries...Notre Dame mysteries and another collection dealing with the catholic church....addicted to the Knight brothers that are in his Notre Dame mysteries....and he's an actual professor at Notre Dame.. www.fantasticfiction.co.uk/m/ralph-mcinerny/www2.nd.edu/Departments/Maritain/cvrm0.htm

Ah, dear Hypolita! How nice we share our views about the books...I shudder to think how HIs Dark Materials will end...I am halfway the end now...
Soooo many interesting things to read! Yesterday, a small Amazon-enveloppe arrived with yet two new books . Upon which my dear husband gently pointed out that there is no unlimited space to stock them...nonsense! There is always place for a book, but I will be good and read what I have now first *grins*

*Chuckles* When I used to sew alot, I had a sign that said "She who dies with the most fabric . . wins!* I guess that could be said of books for some of us!
A college professor's yard sale yeilded this nice little gem, "The Centennial Edition of F. T. Palgrave's The Golden Treasury of the Best Songs & Lyrical Poems" . . 620 in all . .

Oh, Edie, my step-mom read that entire series and loved it!
I haven't had time to read lately, but something I think people here would love is "Year of Wonders" by I'm not sure... *L*
And in a totally different direction, "Oryx and Crake" by Margaret Atwood

(and Do you sometimes feel that we're getting closer and closer to the world of The Handmaid's Tale every day??)
